I saw this today:

Nice, but impractical. There is no hidden real watch - this is literally a sundial on a strap.

I think that the Flintstones did it. :D

Water resistant up to 5 ATM

With no hollow casing, moving parts or battery it should be resistant up to 5km.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I'd almost be tempted, especially as it's not that expensive in watch terms. Would need to see one in the flesh first though I think.

The leather strap might be the limiting factor. Though it would be useless as a dive watch for the obvious reasons.

I saw one in the flesh yesterday. It’s a pretty chunky thing - like most Fossil watches, it’s pretty big. There is no working compass in the watch or the strap, depsite other Fossil watches having compasses on the strap.

The gnomon is a stuff rubber thing, so it’s not metal.

I have a couple of replicas of Elizabethan timepieces from the Mary Rose.

Is the gnomon luminescent so you can use it after sunset?

No, but I suppose you could carry a small torch to help you.

Yes but how would you then hold the compass so that you knew which way the torch was pointing. :?

Personally I would just buy a proper watch? II'm very happy with my citizen. Not to put a downer on your conversation :)
