Not sure if anyone's heard, so apologies if this is well known, but it appears non-slimline PS3s are suffering from some sort of date bug. Sony are not being very forthcoming other than to say they're fixing the issue, but they don't even seem to know what the issue is, as they're saying it's something to do with the PlayStation Network, when it seems to be the machines themselves, because people are having the issues when not even connected to the internet.

I'm trying to get back into GTA, so was planning to play it tonight. I'm not going to switch the machine on until it's been fixed now, though.

If it's like mine, weird error messages and next to nothing working. Other than for watching blu-rays or maybe PlayTV, if you've got a '1st gen' PS3 I wouldn't even bother switching it on.

This is the only article I've found stating correctly what the problem is. Sony themselves are saying it's an inability to log into the PlayStation Network, which it blatantly isn't. Sony have handled this appallingly so far. The only thing they've done is to produce an inaccurate twitter post.

When you say 1st gen do you mean the 60GB backward compatible model or generally all the original style units?

Not sure how true it is but gives a possible reason. Dammit and I was planning on mastering AUG today. Needed 15 more headshots

Quite interesting. However, all the people who are saying "wait until tomorrow" are speaking nonsense as far as I can work out. Tomorrow, it will be March 2nd and the machine will think it's March 1st, can't see how that's going to be any better than before.

At the moment, system clock is saying 29th march 2010 and tries to look up on the calendar, cannot find a date so no go. Tomorrow it should be 1st March 2010 and therefore will be able to find the date on the calendar.

On various websites there are lists of the models that are affected (you can tell from the first four letters of the serial number) however I think if it's a 60GB launch unit like mine, it almost certainly will be affected. I'd advise leaving it switched off until at least tomorrow morning.

Okay so the date issue should have sorted itself out now. The unit will think it's 1st march 2010 and be able to function once again. Reports are in that all consoles are fully functional and there has been no loss of trophies.

I think it's the 40, 60 and 80gb ones, I've got a 40 myself and haven't switched it on yet.
