Voting for the Feb comp starts now and will close at midnight on Sunday 7th March. The rules: * Voting occurs for one week from midnight on the last day of each month until midnight on the seventh day of the month. * Please vote for your favourite three images. * You cannot vote for your own image* Your 1st choice will be awarded 5 points. Your 2nd choice will be awarded 3 points. Your 3rd choice will be awarded 1 point. If there is a draw on say for example 15 points, then the image with the least number of votes will win, such that an image with 3 votes for 5 points will defeat the image with 5 votes for 3 points. It won't be the '2nd best' for everyone, but it will be the 'best' for the few. If it's good enough for a Grand Prix then it is good enough for here. Please try and keep this thread for votes only, it will make it easier for me to tally up later. If you must comment on images and decisions then please do so in the original thread (once it is unlocked). This thread will run for 1 week only. At that time the winner will have the option of choosing the next theme, and the deadline for entries to that theme will be the end of the current month. Most importantly, good luck to all entrants. 1st place goes to "Contrast". I love the balance of shape and light in the picture. Almost a yin yang balance. I could look at it for ages.
2nd place goes to "Oh!!!". It's a bit grainy but I'm not marking on the quality of the camera. I think the balance of the colour and the empty space make it really effective.
3rd place was a close call between "Swirls" and "Zen and the art of pancakes". I'd really like to see the latter taken from directly above, it's really well thought out but cutting off the object at the top lets it down a bit. I like the framing of Swirls and the contrast in the pattern. I think the one that gets it for me is ............. Zen and the art of pancakes. I think it just got ahead with the originality.

I had a lot of trouble deciding exactly what abstract was and had a few photo shoots of different subjects before I finally chose one to submit. I now have the same problem in voting and have to apply the same reasoning to the entries this month.
Zen and the art of pancakes - Very original, I keep going back to this one. As Oliver mentioned it would be nice to see the whole scene, and maybe from a different angle, but very abstract and seasonal to boot.
Waterfall - I don't know which way to look at this one, and that is abstract enough for me. Fortunate for the late entry as I had pretty much decided on my votes last night and had to reconsider in the last couple of hours.
Peek-a-boo - This one makes me smile. Something funny about a bright purple grinning dinosaur trying to hide in the trees and bushes.
I would love to have more points to give as there are so many great entries this month.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

1) Voyage to the Stars 2) Contrast 3) Passing Backward Could describe my choices if I thought about it. But I tried to just go with my gut on which I felt were the "best" images in relation to the subject. Hope that's ok

Should probably unsticky the entry thread before stickying the voting thread otherwise somebody (Nick) may take offence.

Such a high standard this month peeps Keep it up 1. Contrast - brilliant. Nothing more to say 2. Oh. I like the medium used to capture this. Nice experimentation. 3. Passing Backwards. An oft used image but it fits the bill nicely this month. Al

1. Raw Bacon
2. Voyage to the Stars
3. Not an iPod
The ones that held my attention for the longest although I´m not sure why I like Not an iPod, I´m not usually into such minimalist photos.
