http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/03/09 ... _bbc4_why/ Newswipe's about the only thing I watch from those channels, and I'm not even sure which one it's on as I search iPlayer for it ![]() So, what do you think of BBC 3 and 4? Scrap them? Improve them? Think they should show more pie baking programmes? ![]() |

I watch Heroes, Family Guy and some recently finished comedy about teenagers which was quite funny on BBC3. Even then Heroes is shown on BBC2 the following Saturday. I don't think I have ever watched anything on BBC4. They could be merged so there is one channel and it is shown throughout the day if possible, not from 7pm |

The only reason I watch BBC3 is Family Guy and American Dad. I don't bother with anything else. Given I already have the latest eps of Family Guy and American Dad on my HDD, I wouldn't miss anything if both those channels were sacked. |

As far as I can make out, BBC4 has all the shows that should be on BBC2 whilst BBC3 has all the shows that should be in the bin. |

BBC 3 gave us Torchwood and Being Human, both of which are very good UK productions. Mark |

I personally would disagree but I see your point. |

The only thing BBC3 is good for it Family Guy in the evenings. BBC4 is totally useless. I say scrap them and scrap all +1 channels (People have VCR's or HDD recorders). Use the extra bandwidth to broadcast HD Freeview. |

With tv recorders and iplayer I don't see any reason why shows need to be repeated on the same or other channels within a week later. With the saved air time you could probably condense the channels and lose at least one of them. On another note I saw 2001 on the weekend and there was a news report from BBC 12. |

Let's face it. +1 channels are just there so advertisers will pay more. The cost of them is minimal as all the programmes are already paid for. |

I disagree I think that BBC4 is the only one of the four to broadcast anything worth watching. The other three haven't been watched in a loooooooooong time. However, given that BBC Parliament is my favourite channel, I'm probably not the typical viewer. |

I dont have a PVR and quite often I like to watch one channel (missing a programme) and thrn catching the missed programme on the +1 channel. |

I do have a PVR, but it only records two programs at once, so I often use +1 channels to watch what I can't record because there's too much on at the same time. I wish BBC 1 & 2 had +1 channels. |

I said this elsewhere, but it's worth repeating... The BBC doesn't have to chase ratings. For this reason, I couldn't care less if BBC4 was only watched by two people in Harpenden once a week. As it is, I watch BBC4, but not BBC3. I used to watch 3 when they put on a decent movie on a Saturday night, but soon stopped after I got annoyed by 60 second news headlines breaks every hour. I guess that's something to do with the public service remit, but it annoyed the heck out of me. |

BBC 3 is aimed at a younger adult audience and is also where the beeb tries out new comedy and, as has been previously mentioned, things like Being Human. It's essentially a testing ground to see what will later play well on the more mainstream channels. BBC 4 is the TV equivalent of Radio 4. It's aimed at a more mature audience and has a lot of cultural and arts content that either wouldn't be shown on BBC1/2 or would be on at 2 am or something. I think both channels have a purpose and should stay. |

BBC 4 is a fine, upstanding channel, when it’s not sowing Paxman-irritating tat (yes, it does have some junk on it), but for the most, it has a lot of good content. I also think that BBC3 has a fair amount of good stuff on it, but a lot of junk too - far more tat than BBC 4 and to be honest, if they took the intelligence of BBC 4 and partnered it with the innovation of BBC 3 and ditched the tat, we’d have a mighty fine channel there. |
