Not a poll or anything, just trying to get a feel for what people use/recommend/discourage as my all-in-one printer has decided it doesn't like the compatible cartridges I'd happily been using until now... I know I could look into what's wrong with it (cleaning it or whatever) but it's just been a cnut of a thing from day one, so I think I'm gonna take great pleasure in beating the absolute sh1t out of it with something heavy*

Also, you come to the usual ridiculous problem of being able to buy a new all-in-one complete with mini ink carts for less than it costs to refill the old printer

* Don't bother telling me about the environmental impact, worries about the glass etc, this thing looks like Ed-209 and is about as efficient:

It's been friggin' asking for it...

HP C3180

I bought it when my old HP Deskjet died, and it's OK. I just couldn't believe how cheap it was. My old HP cost nearly £200 and the cartridges were about £70 - I still have a couple which is annoying. The new one is a scanner / copier / printer which cost about 50p. It prints and scans better than my old separates - the quality is as good as any I've seen. I can't really fault it, provided it doesn't break. Been a couple of years so far I think, but I don't use it much.

Konica Minolta Magicolor 2450.

Bought several years ago off the back of some good reviews in the like of MacUser and so on. Plus I was getting a bit narked by my old Epson inkjet (C81 IIRC) going through cartridges on a regular basis because I'd almost invariably have to do some head cleaning every time I used it.
The 2450 has been pretty good. It's a bit slow as it's a 4-pass laser, it makes a bit of a racket when it's printing and if I'd know how involved the process for printing envelopes was I really wouldn't have bothered. On the plus side the picture quality is quite impressive for a laser although some prints do come out with a bit of a magenta cast when there is a lot of blue in the picture (sky and clouds for instance).

I have always used HP, the last one an HP Photosmart 2160 all-in-one with fax, but that is currently at my girlfriends and is getting a bit old.

Ordered the new Canon MX870, which replaced the MX860 this month... It is supposed to be excellent quality and does duplex printing and scanning.

I've only ever used genuine cartridges with the HP.

I had a demo of the Xerox block printers the other week, now they are very nice, but very pricey.

HP PSC2510 all-in-one, HP Deskjet 9800 for the odd A3 plan. A cheap Canon Pixma something-or-other that needed drivers (!) to work with my son's iMac, and a cheap HP Deskjet 1400 that steadfastly refuses to work with my Daughter's Dell. Oh, and an Epson picturemate thing that's always out of ink

Xerox DocuPrint P8e, bought in 1999 for £129. Best bargain I've ever had for my PC, though it will have to go if I stop using XP. They don't do Vista or 7 drivers. They don't do XP drivers for that matter, but the 2000 ones work with XP. It's a black and white laser printer.
