Christopher Nolan takes flight with Superman: 'We have a fantastic story'

Happy days :D

I'm kinda annoyed that the Batman franchise as it currently stands sounds like it's coming to an end under Nolan, but it's probably best that way, and I can certainly understand why :)

Besides, Superman could be the start of something as great in it's own way, and I loved the way he got the thing of using big name actors in smaller roles :geek:

I always thought they used major actors in minor roles as a way of boosting sales of the movie because they could then say: "starring..." followed by a huge list of well known names, giving the film more credibility than if nobodies had been in it.

Personally, I feel Batman should remain open-ended. Like all superheroes, it's an ongoing saga.

That may be true also, but it certainly works with a good director :)

Re. remaining open-ended. I guess that'll be a studio decision once Batman 3 ends (and a big one at that), assuming Nolan turns them down. The complexities afterwards will be enormous, but at least it'll be helped by the Warner Bros/DC position...

Bryan Singer is a legend and there was nothing wrong with his movie. Chris Nolan is a legend, but I would argue that Singer brought Supes what Nolan brought the Bat. I don't want David Sucky Goyer and Chris making supes all "dark". No need.

Have you actually seen Superman Returns or have you only read the good reviews that it got? To say that there "was nothing wrong" with Superman Returns is just so incredibly wrong.

I never thought I'd like another Batman film after the crap that was churned out in the 90's. I think Nolan did a great job in making the franchise appealing again. Its one film that the missus likes just as much as I do (The Dark Knight) and she normally hates superhero type movies. (I've argued since I first saw it that its a genuine crime triller rather than 'superhero' movie tbh) I say let him lose with Superman and see what he can do.

For the record I thought Superman Returns was crap.

Ok, so I exaggerated. I watched Returns at the cinema and several times since. Yes, there are some things wrong with it. But it was a lovingly crafted homage to I and II and personally I very much enjoyed it. As a "reboot" perhaps it was more Hulk than Iron Man. But the fact remains that Singer's take wasn't fundamentally [LIFTED] enough to require yet another reboot. And by a director who's general aesthetic, I just don't see fitting the boy scout.

It was hardly Wolverine or Spidey 3 was it?? Really??

I've never understood why Goyer's work is only ever good when he's with the Nolan's - he can obviously write, so what happens? :oops:

Re. dark. I hope they have the sense not to do that, and I think they do.

I'm guessing it's too much of a liability not to reboot it at this point, too much baggage when they need to knock it out reasonably quickly and be of good quality for legal reasons, never mind potentially burying it for another 20 years...

I have to say I'm not sure which of these three I'd choose if I had to watch one; Spidey 3, Superman Returns, Wolverine :oops:

^^^Wolverine was the least dismal for me, Spidey 3 was a little worse but SR was beyond all crap.

Wolverine was [LIFTED]
Spidey was [LIFTED]
Superman Returns was not [LIFTED]. It may not have been the best film ever, but it wasn't [LIFTED] by a long way.

Sorry man, but IMO it just didn't have any pace and overall became dull as a result. It was hard to give a stuff about any of the characters :(

Ok, the main character. You didn't give a stuff about him?

I agree it had problems but you cannot seriously put it in the same box as [LIFTED] Wolverine!! That's like saying Jedi is better than Empire.
