Some dudes I know have informed me about Steam coming to the Mac. http://store.steampowered.com/news/3569/ I had not even heard of Steam. Seems that it does games. I hope they do Minesweeper I have always envied PC users that.  edit. I wonder if they do Lemmings? I played it on the Spectrum a few times and quite enjoyed it. |

You may mock, but its quite a considerable sea change and may really help the mac platform...who knows! Dice are supposedly following suit and I wouldn't be surprised if others did too. Think about it, with it's limited configurations the mac is rather like a console with a keyboard & mouse...developers may love that. As for minesweeper & lemmings, no, but most of Popcap's catalogue is on there. |

Of course you haven't, you are a mac user and as such you only do cool things on your mac. Like itunes and stuff... |

Pretty much used as a teaching tool for vocal students. Sibelius, kJams, Vocal Lab and Logic are my main tools. Not particularly cool but it pays the rent. Shame about Lemmings. Lemmings was cool.

I bought a few games as DVD-ROMs that turned out to be "steam-powered" (sigh). It's just one great DRM applicator and online gaming forum, you must go online and register a login and all your access codes for each game before you can play anything. However, on the plus side, I lost the Orange Box DVDs before changing PC, but you can re-download free any game you have registered a code for on your login. Portal returns for more cake-orientated fun p.s. I had a full working version of lemmeings on my old mobile phone, it was great! |

One or two on my forum thought that it might be important. I don't know how important games are on computers these days. It would however be nice for those who want gaming not to have to use Windows on their Mac to do so. I might even buy a game myself and see what the fuss is all about.

I am not so fussed about games but I may give it a try as well. Though the mac has not been held back by lack of games. The games that re ported are pretty good. |

Such 2D retro games are usually available to play as a Flash or Java version for free on pretty much any platform, except of course the iPad or iPhone. However, for Lemmings even iPad and iPhone users I think this might work: http://www.elizium.nu/scripts/lemmings/ No sound, but the game is much as I remember it. |

One thing that Steam does very well is keep games up to date - no more trawling around looking for patches, and once you've updated everything, you just backup your game files so that if you ever need to reinstall the game, it's as up to date as the last backup - no need to download/install the patches again. |

I got Tales of Monkey Island for the Mac as part of Macheist, along with Solitaire and another dud... Why does Solitaire need to start full screen, have an animated loading screen and give silly comments when you move a card?  I might get around to installing ToMI when I have some time... I haven't really played a computer game, apart from a couple of flash games, in about 3 years. |
