Right, I know nothing about these things, but my uncle wants to back-up what Nintendo DS games his daughter has left after she lost a bunch of them, so he figured he'd approach his geeky nephew...

He's told that R4 cards still exist but that there are also newer cards out, and he needs to know which ones will play newer games as apparently some refuse to :?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as... well, you know when you do something you take for granted on a PC and non-nerds think you're some sort of computer whizz? That's the sort of hassle I get with my extended family

As I understand it, there are R4 cards and there are NDS5 cards masquerading as R4s. The 'fake' ones won't work, until they are flashed with a different firmware, after which they should work fine.

I don't know if that is of any help to you.

R4 no longer exists, all cards you can buy are fakes

Best bet is a supported one such as a Supercard which has an update system and is a real supported piece of kit

I've only ever done it with a chicken so far, but if required I wouldn't have any problems doing it with other animals at all.
