Further to my previous thread regarding tea etiquette...

The aforementioned work colleague has now started making cups of tea, bringing them in on a tray and then handing them out by holding them with his hand faced down with his fingers on the rim of the mug?!

Is it just me or is that a bit wrong?

Surely he should be using the handle. That is, after all, what they are there for?!

It's polite to offer the cup handle first so the recipient doesn't burn their hand.

Of course, it's preferable not to hold it by the rim... but that's not easy when it's hot.

Why doesn't he just let you take the cup off the tray?

Exactly, this is what I do when I make cups of tea.

Further to this he actually has to walk past everyone to put the tray down and then start handing them out.

Maybe I'm just being hypercritical because I can't stand the guy?

I would guess it\s something he's not thinking about, has always done at home and feels that it would be polite to give you your mug. Though perhaps putting it on your coaster by using the handle rather the handing it to you might be better.

I would argue that the simple matter of hygiene would supercede any level of social convention.

Do what we used to do at work.
Fetch him a cup of tea, but as you go to hand it to him, stop and sniff both mugs.
When he asks what you're doing, tell him you're trying to remember what you c*ck smells like.

That's what I meant. I have no idea where his hands have been and I have to drink from the bit he has just put them all over.

I would argue that germs hurt nobody. So long as he's washed his hands recently. :-P

Frankly, why are you complaining?! He's making you tea! If you don't like it make your own..? ;-)

Good point except for th fact that I'm sure he has the lurgy. :D

Anyway, I've got round it now. I just go to get the mug off the tray as he walks past :D

My boss brings my tea to my desk by the handle and puts it next to my in-tray where I pick it up from and move it to my mug warmer.

This works out very well as an arrangement for me

I have to fetch my own! At the last place I worked we had a tea-trolley lady come 'round twice a day to everyone's desks. That was quite nice.
