just thinking, what is peoples general opinion on already successful bands doing covers of others songs
30 seconds to mars, band romance cover
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeX2nLza4AY

for instance, that cover posted, i think is terrible, but i like both band and song. while other covers of songs i actually think are better than the originals

does anyone else have songs like this? bad or good covers

Offhand, this is the only cover version I can think of that outdoes the original: Luciferion take on Metallica's Fight Fire With Fire....and put the accelerator down:
Clicky

Mind you, if you don't know/like the original this is going to sound like a total mess :)

Depends. Some are good, some are bad.
Madonna should be shot for her cover of American Pie.

Yeah, it varies a lot.

Johnny Cash doing Hurt make NIN look like a bunch of incompetent numpties.

John Martyn did an album full of covers, including one of a Portishead track that was very good indeed.

Whoever it was who covered Stop by Sam Brown needs their legs breaking.

Disturbed's cover of Genesis' "Land of Confusion" was awesome.

Fear Factory's cover of Gary Numan's "Cars" (although Gary was in it) was very cool, as was the video.

Alison Krauss' cover of Keith Whitley's "When you say nothing at all" (four years before Ronan Keating butchered it) is one of my favourite songs, although I like the Keith version too.

Type O Negative's cover of Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl" is also excellent.

I'm about to make myself very unpopular.

I though the Scissor Sister's version of Comfortably Numb was better than Pink Floyd's

* runs for cover *

I was gonna mention those two as good but I wouldn't say they beat the originals....
