I have to wonder if there isn’t some kind of deal done in the background to allow for an acceptable switch over. So much has gone wrong, with Brown making so many public “mistakes” recently, it makes me feel that Labour have secretly decided to throw in the towel. It’s a bit like cricket when one team declares and lets the other side go into bat.

The darkest, cynical part of me thinks that Labour and Conservative have some form of power sharing deal. You’ll notice that when Callaghan lost to Thatcher, the Labour Party went into some form of decline with comedy leaders, up to Smith who was the first credible leader for a long time.

Then when Labour got in, the Tories went through similar throes of idiocy. They had a series of comedy leaders, and now they have someone who is equally poor, but oddly this one seems to be allowed to succeed. It’s almost like some decision was made in a gentleman’s club over a port and a cigar.

You didn't actually think this was some sort of democracy did you?

Politicians don't run the country, Civil Servants do. The people 'in charge' are simply interchangeable wallpaper to the permanent under-secretaries.
Or did you think Yes Minister/Prime Minister was anything other than an incisive and wholly accurate look inside Westminster.
