Post subject:  I need a name

I'm working on a labelling job for a client, and need some inspiration for a name for a new product.

Client makes yogurt using a traditional African recipe. Their core market is, unsurprisingly, African folk who live over here in Blighty and want a taste of home.

They're planning a drink version, first up with strawberries. The key selling points are it uses no artificial flavours, colours or sweeteners. Part of the brief is we're to cook up some names for this new product.

So, I need a generic, fun type of name for a yogurt drink that would appeal to both youngsters and mums doing the shopping. It doesn't need to mention strawberries, but could have a fruity kind of bias to it.

All ideas will be gratefully received - anything to unclog my creative braincell - but don't expect any free samples! :)

Thank 'ee!

Is there a particular name for yoghurt type products in Africa?

Don't know, to be honest.

We're using a name "Hodzeko Amasi", which I think refers to the recipe for the basic yogurt. Other than that, I think we have free reign.

It's not being sold in Africa, only in "ethnic" food stores, with a potential move up to more mainstream stores if it goes well. So we want to try to allow for that in the naming scheme and the overall design.

What about "Jambo?" It means "Hello" in Swahili.

Bratty sees the world upside down, I think.

JV, I thought that Vella! might sound good.

I'm serious, too.

The client, by the way, is a Zulu by origin. I had a look at some isiZulu words on Wikipedia:

Eish! (Wow!, or worse  )
Yebo (Yes)
Hambani kahle (go well)
Sawubona (Hello)

I think the last two are too long for the size I have, but it was an interesting exercise if nothing else.

Cheers all!

I'm not sure about the name but I bet you've got the best fitting labels in the whole yoghurt pot labelling industry :D

Sounds good to me! :)

Edit to add: If you fancy making a mock up I'll use it as my avatar ;)

Heh!

Sadly, the container this time is not conical, so it's easy for my head to work it out.

Well, I've sent a list of various words to the client to think over. Let's wait and see what they come back with.

8-)

UM-BONGO!!!

Way down deep in the middle of the Congo,
A hippo took an apricot, a guava and a mango.
He stuck it with the others, and he danced a dainty tango.
The rhino said, "I know, we'll call it Um Bongo"
Um Bongo, Um Bongo, They drink it in the Congo.
The python picked the passion fruit, the marmoset the mandarin.
The parrot painted packets, that the whole caboodle landed in.
So when it comes to sun and fun and goodness in the jungle,
They all prefer the sunny funny one they call Um Bongo!

Sorry had it to put it in. ]clicky

The Vella thing sounds good. I think a two-syllable word with a vowel-sound at the end would be something the kids could scream in the playground quite easily before chucking the stuff over each other!

After a bit of searching, we also came up with some Latin words: Vivo (life) and Bibo (drink).

Still, it's with the client now. I'm sure his children will come up with something even better. Hopefully. ;)
