Just filled up my car with 50 L of unleaded... One problem, the car is a diesel! ![]() The garage has had 6 cars towed in this morning, so won't get mine back until Monday. ![]() Girlfriend just laughed when I 'phoned her... Well, after offering to come and pick me up. |

Been told it will cost around €50 - €100. Because I noticed whilst filling up, I didn't try and start the motor, so they should just be able to drain the tank. |

Dave, the general consensus around the office here is that if you syphon the petrol, brim it with diesel and keep it topped up over the next couple of days/weeks you should be fine. Just make sure you change the filter after about a week or two. Mark |

Bratty, I think it partly depends on if he started the engnine before realising what he'd done. If not, I don't think it'll be that expensive. |

I confess I did it once, and I did drive off. I was 100% sure I'd put diesel in, but the receipt said petrol and I only got about 100 yards ![]() Not sure how much it cost to get fixed, but the petrol alone cost about £50. I'd only had the thing 5 minutes, but it went on to over 100,000 miles without any bother. |

I'm leaving it to the professionals... The garage where I fueled up is about 50KM from home, I don't have any tools etc. at home... So I got the ADAC (German AA) to tow me to the nearest garage. It would probably cost me as much to get the tools, containers and to dispose of the fuel - it is illegal to drain fuel from a car if you aren't in a workshop with a non-porous ground and you have to pay to have the fuel disposed of properly... |

And that's a very sensible precaution/regulation TBH. Petrol is notoriously dangerous and difficult to clean up, if a spillage gets into the drainage system it can literally lead to explosions miles away etc. |

But as the explosion is, (or would be) miles away it's not something I'd lose sleep over ![]() ![]() |

Sorry to hear that. I suppose, at least you realised before you drove off and not after. |
