going to Ireland in 2 weeks for 1 day I think but it will cost me £100 in total, just to keep dad company as hes bought an MPV from belfast so I've never been in Ireland in my life so this oppurtunity for me to see what belfast is like for £100 is it worth it? or is it just a dump? my new lens will arrive before I go so good new place to tryout perhaps? ![]() edit: Ive always wanted to photograph a police/gardaí warthog? armoured 4x4 things, will the Irish police mind if I photograph them? or? |

First of all Bratty, you're going to Northern Ireland by the sound of it, so just call it that. This way you won't inadvertently find yourself in trouble ![]() Secondly, I'd say for £100 it would be worth it, assuming you'll be in/near the city centre. There's a bunch of the usual shops and retail outlets, mini shopping centres, same as any city/town in the UK really... Depends how you view such trips ![]() If you're only going for one day you might not get much time to go snapping, but if you're in the city centre there's a damn good chance you'll see a police (that's Police Service of Northern Ireland, PSNI ![]() Basically, don't worry about anything, so much has changed in recent years, just don't bring up 'Ireland', 'Irish' or 'Ulster', and that way you'll remain neutral, just another tourist ![]() |

Also do not mention if you are a Catholic. Best to avoid religion as well. ![]() |

Forgot, they shouldn't mind you photographing the landrover, but if you're right in front of them I'd ask first ![]() Oh, and dispel the notion of soldiers running about etc. As I say, things have changed a fair bit ![]() EDIT - Yes, avoid chats on religion, even your own ![]() |

If, on the other hand, you're going to the Republic try to avoid saying things like "British Isles". ![]() |

Haven't been "to the north" for many years. Last time I was there it was a very very scary place. |

Same here. Managed to stay in Belfast over the weekend of the football riots last year, in a place just up the road from the main trouble ![]() We did see a fair few armoured landrovers about the place. |
