http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/ap ... c-tv-radio I'm just curious as to what others make of that. With the benefit of hindsight, was it all overblown? I'd say that it was overblown by the press, though it shouldn't have happened in the first place, and while I agree with most of what he's saying there, I don't agree with the comment of it being 'intrinsically unimportant'... |

His actions were worse than Brands, who at least resigned. Wossy was an A-hole of the highest order and so gave up on his shows ages ago. He was gwossly overpaid. It was his actions that gave the ret of the media a reason to attack the BBC. |

True but that was because it was harder to make it all about him. He did have a love for film which showed through. |

Wasn't Brand pretty much forced to leave (not that he shouldn't have expected it)? And the BBC had paid Ross too much money to get rid of him at that point. There was definitely a hint of the attacks being directed at the BBC (from the usual suspects obviously), but I think they were more about looking to bring down Ross since 'he'd gotten too big for his boots' in their eyes, which would be typical of the mainstream British press attitude... |

I think they could very easily have got away with calling it gross misconduct and terminated his contract without compensation. They chose not to because his shows were much more popular than Brand's. Brand was essentially made the scapegoat, regardless of who was actually at fault. Of course it was an utterly self-serving decision by the BBC management to do it that way that did them, if anything, less credit than Brand or Ross. It should have been both of them or neither. I have little time for Ross, I think he's frankly a bit thick but if Brand had overstepped the mark, Ross definitely had.
Well if the amount he was being reported as being paid were even vaguely accurate, he was grossly overvalued and that made him a target. Of course the people who should have been being slated were the management who decided to agree to the contract with him. But they rather left him to hang in the wind over it, although he managed to tough it out. Can you see the common theme here? The BBC management are, frankly, an appalling bunch of incompetents who have done more to ruin a great institution than Rupert Murdoch could dream of. |

Couldn't agree more, and I've often wondered what would happen if they consciously made a decision to stop the nonsense of chasing ratings and announced it? It'll never happen, but it would possibly help solve a lot of their problems... |

Brand was the scapegoat, but the BBC did not want to lose a big star like Wossy. I heard the telephone call on the Brand show and it was mainly Wossy who caused offence. The press have it in for the BBC because with it around they cannot charge for UK web news. I will be glad to see the back of Wossy. The BBC should make a star of someone new. It would be a lot cheaper as well. |

I’m sure they will be more than happy to plaster Graham Norton over our screens at any given opportunity. |

Am I the only person here who actually likes Mr Woss ? I find his sarcastic "I don't care who I offend, this is what I think" laid back and somewhat self-important style of wit very entertaining and easy to laugh along with. I think he's a good entertainer. Is he over paid? That's up to the market to value. |

The BBC shouldn't be part of the normal market. |

Are you saying people working for the BBC should consider it "charity work" and do it for cheap or free?? |
