i always thought the rinse method came from the west indies "créole", when the risotto method is what was used everywhere else. At least the rinse method is a lot more common in France

A nice way of cooking rice that I came up with is to soften half an onion and some other stuff (peppers, etc...) in a frying pan and add the rice in and keep adding little bits of vegetable/chicken/etc... stock and stirring until the rice is cooked.

Takes a hell of a lot of stock but tastes very nice :D

Well, it's almost like it but I was using long grain rice (the only stuff I had) and I thought you had to prepare paella slightly differently?

TBH it was more like the rice version of super noodles (but nice). :D

Oh my actual god!

Just had the nicest meal I have ever made!

Bought 4 whole, gutted, sea bass (although they're not bad-tempered nor mutated :( ) and a rice cooker :D

The fish was delicious and I still have 3 in the fridge!

As for the rice... it was the nicest rice I have ever made! It took me straight back to eating home cooked meals in Japan!

Had a little salad of small cherry tomatoes and beetroot.

Delicious!

Nom nom nom nom nom nom!

I just bought a rice cooker in Asda for £15. Why were they so expensive when I was at college!? Although I doubt it will last a life time for that price; time will tell.

I have cooked the rice. I have poked the rice. I have eaten the rice. The rice was good.

I used the really cheap American long grain, and this is probably the best it's ever tasted so that's a win.

Double win - it's so easy to clean it barely even needs a look at! If I was at college still, it could probably go a whole term never being washed up - the excuse being to preserve the non-stick coating

It takes 6 cups at full load - I just did 2 because any less looked silly. This means I have rice left over. It's keeping warm at the moment but I should probably do something about it before I go to bed

i have steamed rice for years but i use a stainless steel fine wire sieve over a large saucepan with a lid on top
it works and tastes better then the boiled stuff ...
