No, try finishing Killzone2 on Elite, or ranking up in BFBC2. And don't even get me started on Wipeout HD....

In the old days, games had ridiculous difficulty spikes because developers hadn't worked out effective ways to hold the player's interest properly. Games these days don't involve so much die/respawn/die mechanics, but that doesn't mean that they're easier.

definitely easier to understand mechanics-wise, but overall id say it depends on whos playing :P

*EDIT* just like to add that to me, games appear to have gotten easier, but thats probably because i have gotten better at playing them. i spent months playing Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time when i was 14 and got nowhere near finishing it. then i picked it up again at 17 and got through half the day in a day :roll:

No they're not too easy. Unless you play them on easy-mode. :lol:

I find moderate/standard just about right - if I'm able to complete games on standard I usually struggle on hard/extreme etc

A lot depends on the Difficulty level, of course. I finished Halo (but not on the hardest setting) but haven't been able to complete Quake 4 or Doom 3. I'm not sure if that's because I'm just not adept at this sort of thing or the fact that I always feel I should be getting on with something else instead. I voted No.

No. I like to enjoy a game rather than try for the 19th time to get through one b*astard part of a level on hard - usually just before a save point :x

I think they are in some aspects

Compared to old arcade games such as Castlevania they are easier in difficulty, however there are other challenges (and it's easier to get help if you are stuck)

However I think the main way they are easier is that the number of things you have to do has been greately reduced. Compare a current turn based fps to something like XCOM TFTD or Sid Meirs games and the games are very dumbed down for modern gamers, same with a lot of the adventure games, some were very esoteric and challenged how people played games

I don't recall playing any of my fave games on hard. I usually start with normal. If I find the difficulty is too hard, I'll drop down to easy. I don't spend much time on games, so I don't want to spend the limited time I do have going over the same thing a billion times and failing.

i like games like Half life, with a strong story more than needing stupid accuracy when walking or shooting anything. I like being able to shoot in a general direction and win instead of needing bulls' eyes

I think that more has gone into multi-player rather than a damn good story & game player for the single player with a few exceptions ie The Witcher ,Stalker and strategy games.

In some respect some games have become easier due to being just too damn short and no real challenge.

Ranking up in BC2 isn't that hard :P, it's more of a grind rather than being difficult.

Maybe overall the majority of games are easier but that's because there's more of an emphasis on casual games. If you wanted a challenge, there's still many places to turn to, from the known to not-so-known e.g.:

Call of Duty 4 - On Veteran this is quite a challenge, not so much for good AI, but because of the constantly respawning enemies if you don't push past a point and the constant grenade spam. The Sniper extraction mission specifically comes to mind and the last part of it where you have to hold out for a few minutes still has me not wanting to repeat it :P. MW2 on Veteran in comparison was a walk in the park... although the Estate Escape mission was slightly harder... MW2 does make up with some of the "insane" Special Ops missions however.

Ninja Gaiden (1&2), Devil May Cry 4 and Bayonetta - Each on Path of the Master Ninja, Hell & Hell (or Dante Must Die) and Infinite Climax Mode respectively. It's not impossible that it can't be done, but it takes lots of skill and dedication to master the control scheme/gameplay mechanics whilst at the same time reacting to everything that goes on in game.

I like a challenge but not repetitive frustration. I think there were two challenges in San Andreas I didn't finish to complete the game but I made many attempts to do so.

I'm guessing the retarded RC plane challenge was one of em? The one that even if you completed it, it sometimes decided you hadn't :roll:

I always start games on Normal cos I'm a foreign eccentric ;) , but also because if you can't get too far in Normal the game's badly designed to begin with IMO :twisted:
