Special delivery 1 week

Anything else, 3 weeks IIRC

Contact the Post Office, they may be able to extend the hold for you.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

The Royal Mail sorting office will hold things for 1 week from the first delivery attempt (for Recorded and Special Delivery items).
Bear in mind that, as Monday is a bank holiday the first possible day they will try to deliver on is Tuesday anyway so the sorting office should hold the items until at least the following Tuesday (10 May).

If you have a house mate or family member you can trust then they can collect your items if you leave suitable ID (the photocard part of a driving licence for instance) and they can get hold of the delivery card the postman will leave.
