Technically amazing, as good as CGI, motion capture and sound gets (watched it in 1080p on a 42" screen last night), but apart from the final battle, that film had nothing going for it ![]() Seriously, how thin were those characters and plot? Characters died and you couldn't give a crap cos they were so underwritten, and what they did have to say wouldn't have sounded out of place on a homemade YouTube movie ![]() I realised this morning I could only remember three of the characters' names... One of them not being the military commander (?). He was basically Nick Fury from the Marvel comics, only without the character... he even looked look a drawing ![]() And was it just me, or was the middle of that film a complete drag? There must have been a good hour that, as far as plot was concerned, was essentially just Jake and the girl (actually, I've even forgotten her name now) fannying about in the jungle ![]() |

Yes, that's right, I remember you saying the middle dragged too now that you mention the old thread (couldn't find it without searching for hours) ![]() |

Everyone knew the plot was as weak as vending machine tea, it was all about the 3D experience. Without 3D it's just a bad version of Dances with Wolves or Pocahontis |

Shouldn't that be Dances with Smurfs? ![]() |

I disagree, but I'm not getting into a whole thing again. I'm clearly the only person on this forum who actually enjoyed it as a movie. |

We just watched it at the weekend as well, we both enjoyed it, it held our attention all the way through, even my Mister who gets bored at the drop of a hat. I don't agree with all the "it's changed my life" people, it was a very good film IMO but each to their own. Part of what made it so appealing to me was the premise that the Na'vi are connected to everything that lives, and that everything is connected together. The scene when Neytiri puts Jakes torch out and he takes a look around at the natural lights of his surroundings for the first time was brilliant. I couldn't work out for ages how Jake was going to reconcile his learnings and his growing feelings of belonging with the Omaticaya, but when it all came together at the end I knew wjhat Eywa would do. Anyway, I'm fine with the concept that not everyone enjoyed it, but for my 2 penneth'orth it was a really good film, and definitely one that I will watch again, partly because I don't believe I saw everything the first time, I think it's one of those movies where you see something new every time you watch it. |

The kids bought it on DVD the weekend before last but me and Mrs. V. still haven't found the time to watch it... Once I have I might have something more worthwhile to say. |

I actually loved it for the plot. I have it on blu-ray, but I've also watched it on my iphone and I can watch it again and again. It's a good action movie, I cared about the Na'vi characters and loved the not-so-subtle dig at US foreign policy... |

I enjoyed it. In 2D. Haven't seen the 3D version. |

Was a great film in 3D at the cinema, and having bought it on DVD I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't lose too much without the 3D aspect and on a smaller screen. Was slightly disappointed that the DVD version is 16:9 ratio and not full widescreen (2.40:1?) as is common with a lot of DVD releases, but it still stands as a great popcorn film. It's not going to change cinema - or anyone's life - but I found it very enjoyable. I certainly don't agree with the view that it's boring, but each to their own. Just looking on Amazon, it appears the BlueRay version is 1.78:1 aspect ratio - a shame that the DVD edition isn't the same. Seems an odd decision, but whatever. |

As an aside, I actually saw it on my honeymoon, so it has a place in the "fond memories" part of my brain... |
