I heard the Biometric Passports were included in the scrap as well.

Apparently the United Kingdom is under on obligation to go beyond what the current generation of biometric passports offer. Thus we'll be keeping the existing system, not upgrading to "generation 2.0" - which includes details such as fingerprints. No news on the NHS database yet, hopefully that will go too. I did choose to opt-out of it, but never received a confirmation.

We opted out too and received our confirmation letters from our GP Practise. Might be worth contacting them if you haven't heard, we got our letters within a fortnight. _________________The Official "Saucy Minx"  This above all: To Thine Own Self Be True "Red sky at night, Shepherds Delight"..Which is a bit like Shepherds Pie, but with whipped topping instead of mashed potato.
