I heard the Biometric Passports were included in the scrap as well.

That might be a problem with the US immigration. Unless you plan to go to the states it might be a huge benefit.

Apparently the United Kingdom is under on obligation to go beyond what the current generation of biometric passports offer. Thus we'll be keeping the existing system, not upgrading to "generation 2.0" - which includes details such as fingerprints.

No news on the NHS database yet, hopefully that will go too. I did choose to opt-out of it, but never received a confirmation.

We opted out too and received our confirmation letters from our GP Practise. Might be worth contacting them if you haven't heard, we got our letters within a fortnight.
