Hey all, Does anyone know the position with regard to taking a job and having a holiday booked? I'll be working over the summer, probably 7 days a week, but I already have a trip planned in June for a week (which is coming up to peak season being Cornwall). Can my employer complain/prevent me from going if I've already booked it before being employed? I'm not looking to be paid for the week I'll be gone. |

Did you mention it at the interview? That way they would have known about it before you joined. |

I didn't get an interview - I worked there last summer and they invited me back - they said they were impressed with me last year, and they're nice people so I was keen to go back there. I took a similar break last year which they were OK with, although it wasn't quite as long (4 days, where this is technically 8). I'm 90% sure they'll be fine with it given all the hours I put in, but I just wanted to know where I stood in the unlikely event they kick up a fuss. |

Well let them know as soon as possible so that they can work around it. At least they will have plenty of warning. |

If you informed them before they can't stop you unless you specifically sign a part in your contract accepting it (such as emergency services) |

Just make sure you tell them when you respond to their offer and it'll be fine. If you leave it and accept the offer then spring it on them at short notice then they may rightly get a little annoyed. |

Just let them know before you actually start work, but asap I have always told any new work of any holidays booked if I get through to the 2nd round / offer stage of interviews and never had them say no |

^^This. Employment law is a little fuzzy on the "come back again this year" type of jobs we have down here. |

Aye, let them knoe before you start. All of my employers have been good about those sorts of things. |

Indeed. Some companies ask you to list your holidays when you join, but if not just tell them and it'll be fine. And if it's not then i'll guess you'll have to make a choice. |
