Just got back from a 3.4 mile run (did it in 30 mins :D last time I did it was 45 mins) and just wondered if any of the people who said they were going to start getting fit actually did anything and if so what have you been doing?

I am still doing the British Military Fitness thing and going on a 10k run at the end of October.

I hurt my knee about 2 months ago (maybe more) and it's still killing me now although not as much. I've spoken to various people about it and I have decided to go gently on it but continue training in order to try and build up the strength of it.

Any stories from you guys?

I'd shift to your left arm, or the comments you get might not be entirely complimentary..

Ive been doing a lot of cycling. Off road stuff which is more fun and exciting. Also started playing rugby again. It's starting to pay dividends so I'm quite pleased.

Hopefully when the season starts i'll feel even better! :)

Except the only excercise I get is motocross at the weekends. And that depends on wether I have a pot on or not :D

Went for a swim in the sea after work with my colleagues.
I literally can't remember the last time I went swimming. My best time for rowing 1km is 3.30.2 seconds, so I was reasonably fit a couple of months back.
I swam maybe a couple of hundred metres, realised that if I continued, I'd be struggling to reach the shore so I turned back.
I need to swim more.

Joined a gym, go whenever I have time (at least once a week, haven't been more than 4 times a week but I don't count Sat/Sun as the week as i'm at work).

Get a good few hours done on cardio while i'm there, usually end up running about 5k, cycling 5k and cross training about 2k.

Weights i've decided to leave until I get rid of the excess flubber. I'm pretty well built around the shoulders and biceps anyway so I don't need it for posing reasons!

It's so much easier to do exercise when there are TVs built into the running machines and when I can go online when cycling!

Is it just me or is it freaking impossible to get rid of the fat around your belly button area.

I can now see the ribs on my chest and the muscles on my stomach for the first time in years but I still have the fat around my belly button.

Fricking annoying.

That's possibly diet related. Something like 70% of fat loss is attributable to diet, so I've been told by a gym instructor. To get that rippling six pack, your body fat ratio would probably have to be into the teens, which is apparently really hard to maintain.

OK, from looking around the internet and doing some rather fudged measurements and comparing images and stuff I'd say I was around 15-17% body fat at the moment.

In order to see any sort of six pack you really need to get below 10%. Anything less than 10% will give the final cut look. However, getting from 15 down to 10 (and below) is the hardest part (like you said).

You're doing really well if you're down to that level of body fat!
You're still young, aren't you? Git. I hate young people.
I got down to about 20% at my best. More than that would have required a more specialist diet, which as I eat with the family, ain't going to happen.

I'm 26. Is that young?

It sounds really sad but I haven't been in shape like this for years (like seriously about 13 years). I'm really tempted to go the extra step and try to shed some body fat. I just want to make sure I'm doing it right. I read an article saying you should try to alternate your aerobic exercise. Do some running, some cycling (well I don't have a bike) and some swimming.

So I may start going down to a swimming pool and doing lengths. I used to do 50 or so lengths after work (when I worked in the city). It might do my knee some good as well to get rid of the impact.

I don't want to go down the whole gym membership thing though as I pay £30+ a month for the BMF training and it's a lot more beneficial than a gym (for me).
