I find myself in a rather novel situation here, stuck between my natural cynicism off all politicians and my desperate hope that someone good will come to lead the country. And I'm looking at this coalition and thinking 'Have they put a foot wrong?'. I can think of many things done already / announced that are very encouraging, but the cynic in me expects the bubble to burst at some point. The only thing I can think of is the 55% required to dissolve parliament. Anyone got anything else? |

I'm still prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt. It's only been a couple of weeks. |

I'm agree with Heather, they have a huge hill to climb getting the country out of the mess we are in and any mistake will stick out like a sore thumb. It’s a huge task for any body/party to undertake and I wish them luck purely because we need them to get it right. |

+1 to all the above, it's what I've been thinking from the first few days ![]() Even today Hague said there would be an inquiry into alleged prisoner abuse, while Milliband and Brown were insisting recently there was no need ![]() |

That is the arrogance of being on power for so long, you fail to realise that you may have made mistakes. After time you will have made a few. i am not so sure that the 55% needed to dissolve parliament is a good one either. If they have trapped the liberals hand in the coalition they could end up running as a minority but without the option of being brought down by the rest of parliament. |

I'm not convinced that the 55% thing will actually mean anything in the end. If you can't command more than 50% of the votes you can't pass any legislation and your government is stuffed anyway. Still they shouldn't have done it in the first place. |

the 55% vote is to dissolve parliament but the 50% +1 is still in place as a no confidence vote to bring down policy which was also used to bring down Govt. the 55% is an extra step required to force a Govt. to step down and stand for re-election with a coalition and a possible new voting system moving into place i believe it to be a good idea … this coalition has a mountain to climb and i wish them well in doing so if anybody is a believer in any type of PR for this country then this coalition must stand … |
