Does anyone know the top dog at Phones 4 U and his address. I've got a little complaint to write and I dont want to send it to a general customer service address. I had a google but couldnt come up with anything concrete.

If anyone is wondering what the complaint is basically in the store the manager told me web deals for phones are cheaper because the handsets are refurbished. At the time I questioned him on this (he even said Orange did this too, not just Phones 4 U) but the missus took the deal anyway as he gave the difference in the price of the tariff back to her in cash there and then and she really wanted the phone on the day.

I was sure he was just saying any old crap to make the sale.

I since called Phones 4 U who said the phones arent refurbished and Orange said the same. Its a month down the line and although Nic is happy with both the phone and contract we're not happy about being lied to. I might also have to CC the letter to trading standards.

Definitely alert Trading Standards - it's a breach of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 (Regulation 5 - Misleading Actions).

I will never shop in Phone4U or CPW.

They will always lie to you or try to sell you something you don't want if they think you will take the phone there and then.

Can you quote something relevant from that act I can stick in the letter?

Sure:

Quote:
5.—(1) A commercial practice is a misleading action if it satisfies the conditions in either paragraph (2) or paragraph (3).

(2) A commercial practice satisfies the conditions of this paragraph—

(a) if it contains false information and is therefore untruthful in relation to any of the matters in paragraph (4) or if it or its overall presentation in any way deceives or is likely to deceive the average consumer in relation to any of the matters in that paragraph, even if the information is factually correct; and

(b) it causes or is likely to cause the average consumer to take a transactional decision he would not have taken otherwise.

In layman's terms....it's an offence if you lie about a product (or even if you're telling the truth if your overall presentation is misleading) and that lie/misleading action is what causes the consumer to buy the product/service.

If you want to get really specific then I'd say Regulation 5(4)(b) is the most appropriate (main characteristics of the product).

Brilliant. I shall point that out in the letter. Cheers Linux.

Cheers for the address Fogmeister. I'm not sure if the CEO is still the same but its worth a go. Even if I put "FAO: Chief Executive Officer" or something.

Yes but that is the problem they are the two biggest phone shops. It is the problem of having so much dependant on commission. Though thankfully others are available. I am thinking that my next phone, most likely an iPhone will be bought from Tesco.

Yeah, but you've got inside experience ;)

CPW sell unlocked phones as PAYG. That's of interest to me. That said, one of the stores down here is managed by a mate of mine, so I can to a degree, cut through the bs.
