I really must have missed something but then again I tend not to watch as much TV as I once used to.

I've noticed a lot of shows/films that were/are normally aired after 9pm suddenly being shown before then. CSI seems to be shown at lunchtimes, though whether it has been edited for content, I'm not sure. Friends has always been 12-rated but 99.9% of it is fine to air during the day.

At the other extreme, I switched the TV on at 8pm and what did I see? A naked fat lady. None of it was censored so I could see boobs and pubic hair. Also saw a naked guy's schlong. Was completely surprised that this stuff was being aired pre-9pm. I accept there's been some changes in public attitude so there's a bit more swearing on TV after 8pm.

Am I being a complete fuddy-duddy? I'm only 27 and already I'm concerned about what youngs kids may see on TV.
Has there been a removal of the watershed so TV is no longer safe?

What would you be happy with young kids seeing on TV?

I think nudity is fine, however sexual nudity should stick to the watershed. I'm not saying we should see more nudity pre watershed, it should have it's place and be, it's not the word I'm looking for but tasteful so to speak.

Abolish the damn thing and let parents actually monitor what their children watch.

Most parents are too busy to care.

It seems that a lot of kids who would have been asleep in my day are awake well after the watershed anyway.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I think that the limit is 9pm during the week and 10pm from Friday to Sunday. Though sex really is not worth worrying about, it could be shown after 8pm in my opinion, though violence should be after 10pm during the week and 11 during the weekend. Though the if they are up after that, it is the parents responsibility.

Most societal-status-symbol-owners are too selfish to care.

Corrected

Yes I will accept that correction without any adjustment. I was being kind when I said busy.

I was off work one day and remember the ex-GMTV weather bird on Loose Women telling their viewership about how she was 'on top' with her husband in a hotel, and realised that people opposite could see her through the window. That's bound to illicit awkward questions from any kids watching

kids should be at school between 9 and 3 so thats why you get all the jeramy kyle and crap like that

nudity, depends on the context, embarrasing bodies is on at about 7? and that shows all sorts, same for "art" programs, but anything sexual is 9+ i think

however, im not sure on the extra channels (1-5 being normal channels and "extra" being all the stuff you get on sky/cable) do they have the same rules?

SyFy shows V at 10pm on Tuesday. 9pm the following day, and something like 5pm over the weekend. Given the content, a disclaimer at the start of the programme is not the right level of responsibility they should be taking. They follow similar patterns for other programmes.

There seems to be a blurring of the watershed. If the BBC moved its evening news bulletin back to 9pm, there would be a more reasoned time for the watershed.

Older nursery kids probably aren't as innocent as they used to be though

Maybe they watch Jeremy Kyle while waiting to go to go to nursery and think that they want to be on that show when they leave school, maybe we are giving them the wrong aspirations? ;)
