Apple iPad TV ads start already…. on the BBC Read more: Apple iPad TV ads start already…. on the BBC | PC Pro blog http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2010/06/01 ... z0pdmrUo3L It bothers me, especially on the BBC, it's just distracting and a bit insulting - I'd like to see the rules made stricter, not relaxed, so that there's no room for doubt ![]() You can change your vote if you want... |

It annoys me because it detracts from what I'm watching - I tend to start a tirade against the program makers and blacklist the product involved. |

Oooh, I can't pass on a chance to bash apple ![]() Have you seen Modern Family episode that was pretty much all about new ipad? Phill wanted it for his birthday so his wife did her best to get him one? It didn't bother me but I understand that people might be wound up about that. |

No, not particularly - I see it all the time in a lot of American stuff, particularly the use of Apple equipment in programmes such as House. What annoys me more is when adverts are presented as editorial content (particularly in broadsheet newspapers). |

I would expect to see it in a lot more places before long. It makes a great device to put all the questions that someone wants to ask, so perfect for televised interviews. How long before Cameron uses it at Prime Minsters Questions or the Queen reads the Queens Speech? |

I sometimes get annoyed by it, but on the whole it doesn't bother me. If the product suits the surroundings, and it is what the character would probably use anyway then I think it just adds to the realism and everyone's a winner. It's just when things are obviously placed (i.e. out of place) that I get annoyed. |

I get more annoyed when they use "made-up" brands on soaps etc. In the case of the F1 programme, who cares? I mean, it is an iPad, so what, it helps him do his job better. If it was a Slate or a netbook etc. it wouldn't bother me either. On the other hand, what really annoys me is when they take a recognisable brand and put a bit of tape over the logo, that makes it stand out even more! |

I really couldn't care less, but I can see why a lot of people would. Then again I'm not the sort of moron who goes out and buys a Nikon camera just because that's what they use on CSI... oh, wait ![]() |

<off-topic>
LMFTFY (8-p) </off-topic> Personally, as long as they're not taking any money for it and it's a suitable item for the task in hand I think it's a bit silly to tape over logos. Maybe the Beeb will get a bit chicken and buy a case for it. In France they tape over all logos unless they can convince the companies behind them to pay them for their "advertising". |

It only bothers me on the BBC if like your example, unless they're contributed to the funding of the programme. Any other time, well, we're surrounded by products so it would seem odd if you didn't see them on TV. I actually think it ends up being better advertising when they blur product names out, if it wasn't you'd probably not give it a second glance but a big blurry drink, for example, grabs your attention and you know perfectly well which brand it is. |

Isn't that the point of product placement, to ultimately contribute to the funding of the show? |

If they scrap the BBC license (sorry TV license) then fill your boots....... We see it on other channels and every day life so NO. |

It depends. On some shows its not that noticable to the point of being annoying e.g. if in a scene someone is using a PC and it happens to be a Mac then I dont care. If on the otherhand a product is in scene just for the placement then that would bother me. Jake and his iPad are getting right on my tits though. Its not that it an Apple device or that it could be seen as product placement. I also think from what he said he gets good use from it over the race weekend with his blog and tweets and stuff. What is annoying me is the way everytime I see him on camera he's cradling it like a newborn baby. Can he not put it down when its not being used? |

I think there's a distinction between product-placement and product-being-there-because-it-should-be-there. Personally, for "real-life" broadcasts on the beeb I have no problem at all with brands being on show, but don't think they should be taking payment or "stuff" from companies and should have to pay for what they use. What I'm less sure in my own mind of is whether the beeb should be allowed to borrow "props" from companies for shows that are acted out. |
