I never watched it (I spose it's very quaint to someone my age :? ), but I appreciate it had many fans... And this is probably where everyone here says, 'Didn't watch it either'

I used to watch it, and my brother who is three years younger still watches re-runs.
Our Grampy used to like it, so it holds some nostalgia to us.

I have watched it but could never get over the "three men in a bathtub/shopping trolley, etc rolling out of control down a hill, which they seemed to do every week.

The in-laws love it though, and I think my parents did as well.

As Captain Picard once said "All good things come to an end"

Strangely LOTSW was the only British TV programme I could find on the TV when I was in Texas a few years ago. :?

I genuinely think that Last of the Summer Wine may well be the worst so-called comedy ever produced in this country and I've thought that for a long time. My Mum and Dad used to like it but it was a load of rubbish as far as I'm concerned. How it has lasted 37 years is beyond me.

Well, Martin McGuinness is a fan, so that may be how it's been on the air so long

It's (or was) perfect Sunday TV for a whole sub-section of people I spose :?

Its target audience were older. I never understood it but that is probably why it is finally being cancelled too few of its viewers are left alive!

I'm 39 and I loved it. I hope to live a few years yet.

It was right up there with Porridge, Dad's Army and Faulty Towers. Actually, I probably found it less irritating than Faulty Towers which was overly repetitive and forced at times.

I have often been compared to Compo. I consider it a compliment

+1

I'm currently going back and watching the old Dad's Army episodes (the ones filmed in black and white!) and One Foot in the Grave :D
It's brilliant stuff!

No it's not. It's really not...! I know I mentioned it earlier in the thread, but three men in a bathtub/shopping trolley/etc rolling down a hill, out of control gets a bit tired after a while, as did Nora Batty hitting Compo with a rolling pin/frying pan/whatever came to hand.

Having said that I will try and find the time to revisit Dad's Army, as I have the complete set on DVD... :D

Its target audience were Northerners.

Which explains why a lot of southerners think it's crap - same story with "dinnerladies". The jokes aren't in the slapstick stuff but rather in the complicated interactions and dialogue between the actors.

I'd rather watch LotSW than The Office anyday - Northern and Southern humour aren't the same and rarely mix well.

It should have gone decades ago.
My parents (southerners, too) thought it was terrific but felt it should have been let go after some of the cast died.
Getting the insurance in place to keep filming must have been continually getting more and more expensive, which might explain why the storylines just got weaker and weaker.

People didn't like 'Dinnerladies' because it had Victoria Wood in it.
