Well that's it. I have handed in my last essay (hours before my hard drive borked, lucky  ) and will soon officially be a graduate. Considering I've been in education solidly for 16 years, it's the end of an era really, and I'm still not sure what I want to do in life. Loads of people I know seem to have a plan, which I'm lacking, and I suppose I'm just a tad nervous and wanted to share. Any advice from those who've done it all before?

Thank you. Enjoy your remaining time at uni good sir, I certainly wish I had more time. I'm graduating in English Language and Linguistics at Sheffield University, so about as Arts and Humanities as you can get. As for my interests, well I'm a good people person I suppose, and am a reasonable orator as well, so perhaps something along those lines. However I also enjoy creative work, and have a portfolio from marketing work for a couple of societies (though no professional qualifications there). I really don't know to be honest; I've thought of everything from the gaming industry to policing, but currently have nothing concrete; doing coursework instead of exams gives you little time for career work. Still, I confess a certain amount of excitement as well as fear. |

These are the sort of careers for which your degree will help: Advertising; Archive Work; Counselling; Early Years Practitioner; Events Management; Further Education Lecturing; Higher Education Administration; Higher Education Lecturing; Human Resources; Journalism; Speech and Language Therapy; Librarianship; Marketing; the Police Service; Primary School Teaching; Publishing; Recruitment Consultancy; Secondary School Teaching; Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL); Teaching English as Second Language (TESOL); Training and Development; Writing and Youth Work. Outside this you'll probably get the "you're overqualified" excuse or end being lumped with everyone else. Good luck - I think you're going to need it. |

So a carrer as a brick layer would be out of the question?  Luckily for me, I decided what I wanted to be when I grew up and, 25 years or so after I left school I am doing exactly that.  It might be worth your while just taking a little time, and writing down a list of "stuff you like doing" and seeing if there is anything there that you could actually make a living out of... you might be surprised. |

I'm in the same boat, finished a week and a half ago and will be graduating on the 15th July... Been bored stiff and looking for jobs around the aber as Faye is here for another year. Good luck for the future! |

I'm not in the same boat as, although I am meant to be doing my dissertation soon, I have actually been working for the last quarter of a century! I guess that makes me a mature student, (or immature as the case may be)

Similar situation here linux - waiting for my exam results. Got my first one back today, and it was a solid 66% which is a good sign. I just finished my second year, and start my 13 month industrial placement 5th July. |

Cheers for the suggestions dogbert, some of those are what I was thinking of looking into. And no, not a bricky; pipe-cleaner arms do not a builder make . i'll probably sit down when my head has stopped buzzing and give it some clear thought, ask the parents, etc. In the meantime, I will be traveling in Europe with some friends, going to a wedding, and hoping that a wealthy widow with a dicky heart takes a shine to me. Good luck with your results guys.
