Old TG had gotten stale so doing a photocopy of it was never the best idea.

That format was originally owned by Clarkson. The BBC bought it off him for a huge wad of cash, and has exploited it abroad. I expect that if they change the format, the cost of international rebranding and convincing other countries to buy in (either by dubbing or making their own) to the new format would be huge. If they used the new format here, and let other countries make the “old format” shows, you could be in the rather odd position of the foreigners making better Top Gear than we do. No doubt BBC 4 is planning a docudrama about the whole thing.

It's already been done. It's called 'W1A'.

https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radi ... to-new-lowConsolidated figure for week two down a third over week one. Week three's overnights even worse than week two's. I hope they have a long list of excuses, they're going to need it.

I thought the third episode was pretty good. Apart from Matt le Blanc's totally pointless film at the end. The Star in a Rally Cross Car was too long at 20 minutes, but that might be down to some, erm, choice editing of the London scenes! Top Gear Extra is much better than the main show, only annoying thing is Rory's constant arm movements when he talks, it's like a windmill - once you notice it, you can't concentrate on anything he says! Hopefully, someone tells him to stop it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I'm afraid even if the quality has improved it seems to be tanking in numbers terms. Sunday's episode was watched at broadcast by 2.3m people apparently, which is a lower audience than any Clarkson episode ever (even series one Clarkson/Willman episodes). Streaming numbers will boost that obviously but the basic fact is it's lost viewers every single week so far and it's now had 4 weeks of a 6 week run. There's no way it can turn it around in time to not look like a disaster.

It’s boring. I watched it because there was really very little else on any other channels, and I think H2 had run out of Ancient Aliens for the day (anyway, I had seen enough PPI adverts to last a lifetime). Did the previous team leave their B-list ideas book in a drawer somewhere in the offices? Chefs in a car. Tsk.

Matt Le Blanc to quit Top Gear if Chris Evans stays | Daily Mail Online http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... stays.htmlAll the salt, but if I had to guess... Yeah, every report suggests Evans is a penis.

Things slightly improvingArticle suggests it may have kept quite a few viewers from the BBC's Glastonbury Festival coverage. That may be where it is now, TV that people think 'ah well, there's not much else on so..' rather than being 'telly you make an effort for'. Which is probably fine, that's what 99% of telly is to be honest.
