Robert Lleweln (Kryton from Red Dwarf, Scrapheap Challenge) has been doing a weekly internet chat show, from his car. The series has been a major hit on iTunes and on Llewtube. It got him guest appearances on TWiT and other shows. After 16 months and 76 episodes, the show is now on hiattus.

He has now been in talks with the people behind Scrap Yard Challenge and they made a "for television" pilot and punted it around the TV stations and, well, it has been taken up by "Dave".

That means that there will now be a break in the show on t' 'Net, while they do production on the TV version. The TV version will appear "some time" on the Internet, as before, but no mention in his special announcement of how long the delay will be.

This is great for his British fans, but for the rest of us, it is a big shame, as we won't get our weekly laughs for a while... :(

Erm, it's Scrapheap Challenge here in Blighty, and Junk Yard Wars in the US.

Otherwise, cool!

Thanks Heather, amended. I've never heard of either of them, apart from Bobby Llew mentioning it a couple of times in CarPool...

Scrapheap Challenge was an excellent show. The new format's just not worth watching, in my opinion. (8+(

I've not seen the new format. But I am always amased at how well the teams do-in a day they go from literally a pile of scrap to a car/boat/weapon of some sort.

Very impressive.

I haven't seen it for donkeys', but I'd felt it was on the wane the last time I saw a full series. Bring back Colonel Dick Strawbridge and Bowser! (Although I have seen the former on other shows, but bah!)

Your much loved Colonel is actually the host of the show now.

Oh Mark you missed a golden opportunity there!

The new format works like this:

Dick Strawbridge and chums, dubbed "all stars", get a week to build a contraption. Three teams get a month to do the same. They all gather somewhere to compete against each other, and the winners take on the "all stars".

We watched a few of the new series, but it was simply not the same. There was no sense of urgency like the "You have 10 hours to build a trebuchet to fling a car" versions. Both Best Beloved and I preferred the original scheme.

Bugger! That's crap! He's an engineer - he needs to have his hands dirty, not getting distracted presenting stuff!

I semi-retract the above rant. But not much.

And the luxury of having a 20 hour build occasionally. I remember when there were two teams throughout the whole series! Was it yellow and orange???
