So I need to get to Central Londinium on Sunday to meet some people celebrating Independence Day. Not really my kind of event, but it's people I do really want to meet...

Any other day I'd catch the train from MK to Euston, but on a Sunday I'm concerned they'll probably be digging up the tracks. I'm considering driving to an outlying tube station instead. So my questions are, which tube station is:

1) Close to the M1 motorway
2) Has cheap parking on a Sunday, which absolutely must not require "psychic pre-payment" because I don't know when I'll be back
3) Actually has trains running this Sunday.

Alternatively, maybe I should drive in much further. Anyone know a cheap NCP near the centre?

Any other suggestions welcome,

Also, if anyone else is there PM me if you want to meet up!

Thank you!

:)

Have you checked with Railtrack (website) to see if there are engineering works? They could be running as normal.

Nope. I'm a lazy git and I posted here before I even checked the time tables, let alone the engineering works

I was partly thinking the traffic would be lighter on Sunday so driving further in would be a good idea to save money and time.

Some outlying tube stations (such as Woodford on the central line), offer concessions/free parking on weekends (in the case of Woodford concessions on Saturdays, free parking on Sundays).

No idea about tube stations near the M1 I'm afraid. Google recommends Brent Cross, which is on the Northern Line and would allow you to get a zones 1-4 travel card.

I'm in Willesden so pretty close to the M1. Jubilee line is running well this weekend by the looks of things and there are also several buses that run into various parts of the city from just around the corner.

Only thing I can think of at the minute is parking. The restrictions aren't too bad here as the two closest tube stations are 15 mins walk. If you want I can scout the are tomorrow to see if there is anything free on a Sunday for you.

Edit - There is a sports centre around the corner (300m) that apparently is free parking at all times Mon-Sun, but no mention of hours.

Also Jubilee line is running only to Green Park, but if you wanted to use the tube there are good connections.

That's pretty darned close indeed! On a Sunday I should be able to drive there in less than an hour, which would beat the train because I could go direct from my front door.

If you've read the relevant threads on the silly forum, you'll know who I mean when I say it's Z and her flat mates I'm going to meet. There are no plans except "having fun" so you'll be welcome to join us if you're free, or maybe I could drop by for a cuppa on the way back?

Any info on cheap parking is very welcome indeed, but I should definitely do more research myself rather than ask you to do it for me on foot - unless you fancy the exercise in which case I'll owe you one

Free is good, but the main thing is not getting fined if I arrive back at the car an hour or ten later than I expected. I don't mind a really long walk in the middle of the night, but there's nothing worse than ending a date prematurely because of a potential £180 parking fine :x
