Post subject:  "Private" property - lack of respect for.
Having just watched the 2nd person today use our drive to turn around on, I am seriously considering investing in a gate or some sort of post.

Clearly some [LIFTED] have a hard time understanding that no, my drive is not part of the public highway, and no, it's not OK to use it for "10 seconds" to [LIFTED] turn around on. Sadly this only marks the beginning of the summer, later on people will be parking there whilst they [LIFTED] off down to the beach.

I would never, ever consider parking on their drive in Oxford, so why on God's Green Earth do they think it's OK to park/drive on mine!? :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil:

Is it really that big a deal? How are you losing out? Besides, you live in Cornwall and it's the summer.

If you already have other posts then chain would be a simple and cheap deterrent.

Yes it's a big deal, why should I lose the use of my drive for someone else? Clearly the fact that I may need it is completely irrelevant. Not that I should need to justify my position anyway - it's mine, not theirs. Surely by extension they won't mind whilst I use their iPod on the tube. Maybe I'll borrow it for a while.

And just because I live in Cornwall is no reason why "they" should treat my property as an extension of their own.

You lose the use of your drive for 10 secs a piece and that's a big deal? Might I suggest you re-evaluate your perspective.

You've entirely ignored my opening statement and continue raging on, when you don't mention any damage being cause or any genuine inconvenience.

It might be frustrating, but if people got frustrated at every little thing....... oh wait - that's the world we live in. Try to be different and let it go. You'll feel better.

If they are simply turning around let it go. No point getting worked up about it.

If they park on your drive and leave then contact the police to see what actions you could take. You could get a wheel clamp and then a sign saying any cars left there without permission will only be released by payment of a fine. Check the legality of it. Since it is trespass get the number plate and take civil action against the owner.

Spike strip + sign warning that vehicles trespassing will be treated appropriately and you accept no responsibility for damage drivers cause to their vehicles

Even better if you can get a folding one you can fold in when you need to put your own car on the drive ;)

I'd check legality with your local fuzz first of course, and if you can't do that put a load of other chains hanging from the other chain to scratch a car suitably :)

I can never understand the pettiness of people complaining about turning in their driveway. Fair enough if they come up to the house and turn around, but just reversing into the entrance to turn round? Fair enough IMO.

Me neither tbh, mind I only use the pavement part and not the drive itself, but on a narrow street I can see the benefit of it

We keep hoping someone falls foul of the step up between our drive and the neighbour when they use it to turn. It could get nicely expensive on rear suspension and exhaust systems.

It's not happened yet, sadly. :D

We live down a dead-end, and there's a turning banjo 100m further up. It's just laziness, coupled with lack of observation, as far as I can see.

It depends how narrow the street is. If it is very narrow you really should have expected it before you moved in.

It happens at ours too. It's damn annoying when you're trying to get onto/off of your own drive and can't. Yes we have a large-ish, wide drive, but it's because we frequently have a number of cars parked outside. Doubley annoying when I have to go to a suitable place to turn around and try and get onto my own drive because your incompetance at turning around on my drive means you can't pull off of it until I've moved and released the train of cars all waiting for you to hurry up and move along.

I live on a fairly busy main road, and we've got a pretty wide driveway, so it's not unknown for the odd fool to turn round there rather than drive up to the M69 roundabout just up the road. What *really* pisses me off is when someone decides its fine to stop on the kerb. The grass is for *me* to park on, so they just abandon their car on the pavement. WHAT?!

I have been known to key the odd white van that's parked right on the driveway such that I can't leave my own driveway. Especially when it's been dumped there and they've buggered off next door. :evil:
