You can see all the offers, and there is less chance of impulse buying, and trolley-rage.
The savings easily cover the £3.50 delivery charge and if they're late, as they were on Tuesday, they refund the charge.

In the past I always did my big food shop in one place - Sainsburys. With this recession though I am being more frugal and going to 3 different supermarkets to pick up bargains and deals and it's saved us quite a lot. The last 3 weeks we've been rather short of cash but have managed to survive by spending £25-£30 a week and using up what's in the freezer. What about the rest of you. What are your shopping habbits and have they changed at all? |

£25-£30 in Tesco does me. I usually don't have to do a repeat visit for about 9 days. I do spend about £2 a day in the work canteen for my dinner though. Mark |

To be honest, we've stuck with Morrisons. Our weekly shop comes to between £35 and £45, depending on what we're topping up. We always keep an eye out for BOGOFs and twofers, and make sure to compare the prices against the individual items to be sure. We don't tend to buy anything other than the actual shopping list, just occasionally splurging on something that may take our fancy. For a while we bought into the "budget" end of Morrisons' frozen meals, but we've begun to buy the better quality ones again. They're sooo nice, especially the chicken and roast mushroom lasagne... |

Not really changed mine. We do an online shop from Tesco as the main shop, then top it up with bits from Waitrose that we don't want to get from Tesco. |

I've been going to Asda's for the last couple of years as it's just round the corner, topping up from Tescos or Sainburys halfway through the week. Currently spending £70-90 a week on food (no frozen meals, everything cooked fresh) |

Mmm, yep - I tried that one the other week, very tasty! They also do wonderful Pork Patties in Sweet Chilli Sauce, I swear they're the best thing I've ever tasted from a supermarket! Ohh, my stomach's rumbling now just thinking of it. I must admit, I have no brand loyalty at all and tend to skip between the big 3 supermarkets on a weekly basis - Tescos, Morrisons and Adsa - depending on how convenient it is or the nearest one. I find Adsa the most expensive (I usually end up spending more than £60 if I go there), then Tesco a close 2nd (usually spending upwards of £50) but if I go to Morrisons it's usually between £40 and £50 - I've no idea how people can get a whole week's food shopping for less than £30, but I wish I could. I only usually get a selection of fresh fruit and veg, fresh fish perhaps and 2 or 3 ready meals, a few non-food items (washing powder, toiletries etc) and occasionally some lagers/beers if they're on offer. I'm always surprised at the final total!! |

It's not loyalty so much as convenience and the fact I wouldn't go to Asda if you paid me. We have a local Co-op supermarket which is closer, but they tend to be more expensive. We originally started going to Morrisons when it was still Safeway, purely because their instore bakery was better and cheaper than the Co-op. |

I can't stomach shopping every week. We do one large shop of about £100 once a month and then a couple of mini shops of about £25-£30 each. Total of £40 a week on average. We shop from Tesco because we only have Tesco and Morrisons in town and Morrisons is difficult to get to and full of traffic, whereas Tesco is right on my route home. Our habits haven't really changed much for financial reasons, because we're both quite tight-fisted anyway, but they have changed from a healthy-eating perspective. We used to buy stuff like crisps and snacks quite a lot, but we've cut that down to one box of microwave popcorn per month (a box contains 3 bags) we also tend to buy more ingredients to cook with, rather than ready meals, but then we've always done that I guess. I do have a couple of exceptions. We treat ourselves to the Tesco party food "chinese" selection sometimes when it's on special offer, and we buy Tesco value stuff at every opportunity, except baked beans and chilli. I would shop online, except that the drivers can never find our house, it's just not worth the bother

P.S. We had a Budgens open very near our house during the year which has become the place we "nip" to for occasional treats, but it's not really a regular shop type of place. |

I do most of my shopping locally, though am deciding to do far more online. I get the bulk of my shopping from Asda, will be getting just the basics in bulk online which saves carrying it, and then more from Tesco because of the club card points again in bulk. I get fresh stuff on a daily or weekly basis from either the local green grocer, butcher, tesco express or co-op, which amounts to around a tenner a week. |

We do a big shop every 3 to 4 weeks though sometimes we have to go at other times to pick bits up if needed. |

I usually do a fortnightly shop at Tesco or Sainsbury's (depends which route home I take and what time it is) however I have recently tried Ocado (i.e. waitrose online). Unlike the competition I've never had anything substituted badly i.e. 'you ordered some cooking apples and we didn't have any, so here's some bananas instead!' and the delivery system is very flexible. However they (like the rest) have a 40 quid minimum spend which I actually struggle to manage sometimes, given I'm generally buying for one and tend to stay away form the ready meals & stuff. I've also started buying bits & pieces on a Saturday morning at a new grocer that's just opened near me. It's nice to get stuff like bread really fresh and I think it's worth helping the little guy get established. Jon |

Lol I remember the first time I ordered something online. I hadn't realised there was more than one page in each dept and kept getting confused. I wanted 6 lemons and ended up buying 6 bags of lemons. Oh what a lemon! We generally do one big shop a month then top up from Tesco Express or Iceland. I find Tesco Express stuff quite expensive but it's literally round the corner from my house and it open until midnight so very convenient. They now know us so well in there the guys sometimes 'forget' to put items through the till. My partner when to get some tobacco and something else recently and when he got home he told me he hadn't been charged for the tobacco. I've had a free chocolate brownie from them too. Every little helps! |
