I am a sucker for Apple kit. I see it I want it. Soooooo… Is their new jumbo trackpad a good idea or has the RDF finally scrambled my brain? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Txx3CnIiDvQ I know this is Apple related at the moment but it could very soon be a popular input device on PC (or perhaps not). Apple's page on trackpad

I find my fingertips become irritated if I have to swipe them around on a trackpad too much.
I'm happy with a mouse.

i use a A4 size tablet and twin screens at work , i find the fact that the area on the tablet is relative to my desktop s great as i dont use it in mouse function and also find that using a stylus/pen is more accurate as a touchpad irritates me for example like on my laptop , that the slight roll of a finger can add time to tasks carried out.
also how will it compare to the 50 quid cost of a USB device ?

This confuses me. I’d have to try one before I am to be convinced that this is not a silly idea. My concern would be that Apple start shipping new machines with these instead of mice.

I think this is a great move by Apple. My reasons are outlined in the Mac Hardware forum thread.

I always carry a mouse around, as I don't like trackpads. The Apple trackpad is the best I've used, but I'd still use a mouse over it...
If it was cheap, for doing the odd multi-touch gesture, it might work, but I'd probably go with a mouse and A4 Intuos tablet combination...

It has Magic in the name, it must be good Anyway, I can't see the point of this. Is is faster than mouse? No More accurate? No Less tiring? Don't know It is likely to be much better than scrolling with wheel on the mouse but inferior to middle-clicking on the page and scrolling like that...

I don't know the answers to any of your questions. I might wait until I've actually tried one before passing judgement.

Does you laptop have a physical button, Heather, or is it one of the ones that doesn't? Mark

Mine is old enough still to have the physical button. It does support the two-fingered scroll, though.
