New UK Kindle Store -- Coming August 27

A new store designed for the UK is coming on August 27. With the biggest selection of any e-bookstore in the UK, you can shop more than 400,000 books, including bestsellers and new releases. UK and international newspapers, magazines, and blogs, plus more than 1 million free books, will also be available.

This is a great news, I was "this" close to buying (the old) one from the USA for £164 just two days ago. Now I have pre-ordered the new one :P

Will you be getting one?

Simple answer no. An iPad might be a better option.

I'd rather have an iPad.

I vote Rock, then.

Less likely to be damaged when beating people round the head, too.

I'd rather just read an actual, physical book anyway.

Yup. None of my books require batteries, recharging, DRM, or any of the associated hassles.
I can leave it on the train if I like, someone else can enjoy it, drop it in the bath or set light to it and I'm out of pocket to the tune of a monthly periodical. The screen's never an issue even in the harshest sunlight (it often helps, in fact). I enjoy instant on/off times. Once I've bought it, I know the format will be readable as long as the English language is existence and we possess eyeballs. It doesn't have an ongoing need to consume energy and it never runs of out battery life. Also, the graphics come in vivid colours and a range of sizes from pocket sized to mammoth coffee table offerings.

Kindle is lame.

Wow that's a new image - I've never seen it before, thanks koli.

Also - it's changed my mind. I want a rock too.

It is broken for me so I am getting a Kindle.

Reasons:
1. Most importantly: I want to be able to read on the go. It is easier to read Kindle on the tube than a book , especially when standing and holding it in one hand. Could you do that with ipad?
2. I don't want to own physical books as they take up space and collect dust. Space is precious.
3. Kindle is light (241g) and easier to carry around than book. When going on holiday, instead of five books I will take ONE kindle with up to 3500 books
4. FREE books available to download (anything pre-1923)
5. Delivered instantly over the net so when I finish reading one I can get another one straight away (60s) which is useful on holiday.
6. Ebooks are cheaper than books
7. Battery Life of Up to One Month

BTW, I want an ebook reader not a tablet so I am not going to pay £430 for a chunky ipad that weights 700g when £109 Kindle will do the same job better

No. It's a physical impossibility that an iPad could be held with one hand whilst standing.

Well it could, but for how long? I held an ipad before and there is no way you could use it comfortably on the tube when standing.
