Anyone had problems with play.com? I placed an order on 23rd July and it’s not arrived yet. The order status has been “Order Taken” since then. There’s no contact form where I can ask about this, and the FAQs don’t help either.

I guess I’ll have to phone their number, but the lack of communication from them is concerning.

Phoned them. The item is will take 28 days to arrive. This is because of the manufacturers. No mention of this on their website though.

Never had a bad experience. The only time I've had delays, I've looked at the item again on the website and it said "usually despatched in 1-2 weeks", instead of the more usual "usually despatched in 24 hours".

http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/9732 ... oduct.html

It says on their site under the product "Usually dispatched within 3-5 days". Nothing about a 28 day wait.

We have bought dozens of items from Play over the years and never had a problem, apart from an old game that was on back order for a couple of years but never materialised.

Funnily enough, I have had my first real issue with Play only this week. I ordered a book and a DVD. which I am sure were both in stock. The DVD. but not the book was dispatched on Friday. When I checked the order status, the book was shown as "Awaiting Stock"

Now, the page for the book clearly states that it is not in stock and available for pre-order only, which if DEFINITELY didn't say on Thursday.

The only reason I haven't cancelled the order yet is that it is cheaper than other places by over £4 and with free delivery, so I'll give them until Monday and have a word to find out if they are expecting it this millenium.

I've never had an issue with Play, but I generally try to use Amazon instead (due to the dodgy legal status of the Channel Islands).

No, have I missed something?

I ordered an out of stock CD over a year ago.
Yes I knew I'd have to wait a while, but there has been no effort on their part to say when it will be in stock, or to tell me that it is unlikely to ever be in stock.
I'm assuming it's out of production and that I'll never get it, but it would be nice if they told me that.

Most DVDs from Amazon still come through the Channel Islands. It bypasses VAT, if I recall.

I have no problem with that, and neither do HMRC it seems.

Ah yes, "Indigo Starfish". I'm not sure I like that either, and I'll tell you why. If I deal with Amazon, all of our glorious consumer protections (Sale of Goods Act, DSRs etc) apply, if I deal with Play/Indigo Starfish, they don't.

If you can still find it on 4OD, you might be interested to watch it. The amount of data Amazon keep on an individual was downright scary to me.

PE (whose angle is the poor independent record shop owner, which gets no sympathy from me, that's business) have been asking if Osborne will look into the VAT issue. Either him or his new Lib Dem partners have suddenly gone quiet on it when they'd have had the chance with all the austerity talk...

I've ordered stuff and never received it and never had any contact from Play.
I've also ordered stuff from them and a week later it's gone out of stock, I never had any word from them saying that I'd have to wait.
I've sent off many emails to them and never really got much more than a "I'm sorry it's taking so long"...
