Hi guys, first post on the new forums, very nice! I have a quick question I hope you can help me with. I have to go to London for a job interview next Tuesday and I've never been before, so I'm totally ignorant of how to get around. I'm planning to get a train to St Pancras which arrives at 9.10, the interview is at 11. The job interview is in the Docklands near Canary Wharf about 6 and a bit miles away from the train station. So basically I have two things I'm worried about: 1) Will I have enough time to get from St Pancras to the Docklands? 2) What is the best way to get there? The company has said the nearest tube stations are Blackwell and East India, however i've never used the tube before and I think I would get quite anxious about using it to get there (I don't mind if I get lost on the way back ![]() Anyway thanks for the advice ![]() |

A cab that far will set you (or the person paying) a fair whack - so take the tube - you've plenty of time to do it nice and slowly. It's a few swaps mind, so use: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/ to totally familiarise yourself with the route... ![]() |

Just to add to that - if it doubt write down, (or print out) a list of instructions, ie. which stations to change at, etc. Also, welcome to the forums, and enjoy your stay! ![]() Edit to add: If you don't mind my asking, how did you find our little corner of the Interwebs. Note to mods: This might help get new members! ![]() ![]() |

If you are getting a train to St' Pancras then it's probably worth getting a day travel card included with your ticket as this will let you use a fair whack of the tube network without having to slow down and buy an underground ticket at the station. The underground is relatively easy to navigate provided you don't get too embarrassed by having a long hard look at the numerous tube maps dotted about every station. It probably is a good idea to plan your journey so you know which stations you want before hand. The TFL website has a journey planner on it. |

Good point, i'll enquire about that when I book my ticket on friday. Thanks for the advice Snowy -- i think i'll use the tube, it will have cost me over £130 in rail fairs to get to st pancras and home again so i'm hoping to save a much money as possible! John- Sorry to disappoint you but I didn't stumble onto the site, I used to post on the PCPro forum a little (only had about 100 posts over 2 years) and knew of this site when it started up after the Dennis sites closed down for "maintenance" ![]() I think some sort of content needs to be placed onto the front of site if your really looking to attract new users, why not give each user an area in which they can upload there own articles, or perhaps some sort of photo galleries as I get the impression a fair few people around here are passionate about their photography. |

The tube really is the best way to go, and if you do need help just ask the station staff - they're very helpful in my experience. |

Have you considered a Virgin Limobike? It's a very cool way to get around London without having to worry about public transport. It'd cost about £40.00 each way, but it's a good experience ![]() Peter. |

IF your interview is next Tuesday ( Tue the 9th ) then note that unless there is a last min change that the train drivers on the tube are planning to go on strike so there will be no / very limited service running This means that buses and taxis will be full / hard to find I would contact the Co you are going to and ask them if they have any contingency plans for this otherwise I would give yourself some extra time and look to getting a taxi. Most firms will pay reasonable expenses for interviews so you canask them if they will cover a taxi fare |
