Just thought I'd mention that tonight from about 10pm is expected to be brill for their observation 'cos it's a new moon (predominately visible to the east but allover) - hope this damn cloudcover disappears by then...

Any photographers preparing for some fun timelapse shots?

Look forward to seeing them hopefully:

"Look towards the North East for the best chance of seeing them (but it's true that they can appear in any part of the sky).
If you happen to know the straggly constellation Perseus then that's the one to look for. It's near the 'W' shaped constellation Cassiopeia. Or if you happen to know where the Andromeda galaxy is it's in that general area as well. If all you can manage is the Plough then it's a wee bit underneath the handle.
If it's a good shower you can expect to see a bright one every minute or two, some of them producing ragged 'smoke' trails which linger a while
The most likely peak is early Friday morning but it can be significantly earlier or later.
However, even if the conditions are right, they can be a bit of a damp squib. Last really good shower in the UK I can remember was 1998 or 1999 (can't remember exactly which)."

Fingers crossed for you...

I may do, I may not.

It depends a bit on how tired I am, as it'll be quite a trek for me to get to somewhere decent, and I've not got too much camera stuff in Bath until tomorrow.

I'll have a look if the cloud cover disappears. Last meteor shower was quite successful in that I saw 10 to 15 in under an hour.

I think I'm in the wrong hemisphere but I'll pop out now and have a look.

Straight up :).

Having said that, given current weather, I think the chances of a clear sky round these parts is pretty much zero.

Same here. I'm saving myself for the Leonids.

I am looking forward to it. It will be hard to find somewhere dark enough around here to enjoy it, thanks to the light pollution.

I'll have a wander into the back yard. If the shower is somewhere near the W of Cassiopeia, I should se something from here - I can usually see Cassiopeia very clearly.

Should be ok here if the cloud clears. If I could get off my backside I could really go out to Kielder Park, it has the lowest level of light pollution in England.

I will probably find a deserted beach away from the streetlights and listen to my ipod for an hour or two watching them.
