Do you actually use yours? I mean actually use it?

Because I have three of them. They all work. I don't use them at all. Ever.

The reason: I just can't be ar*ed with them and neither can anyone else I'm likely to chat to. I used them twice about 5 years ago when my sister was in the US and my mother wanted to see the grandkids on Xmas day. However my life seems to have abandoned this once-celebrated technology altogether. In fact I struggle to think of a good reason to use them.

So, am I the only troglodyte around these parts?

Almost never. Although Nic is away for a few days with Emily next week so I may get her to use it then. It will be the first time I've been away from my baby and at least that way I can see her.

Yes, quite often.

We never bothered with it at all but, since we moved to the island, we use it so the kids can see their gran and gramps etc.. on the mainland.

The reason I'm asking is that I've seen other people using them but never Britons.

Only ever messed about with it on one of the netbooks, nobody I know uses them so it's next to pointless for me...

It seems to be one of those technologies that has passed me by.

Just like smartphones and GPS

During my industrial year I used the webcam on my MacBook at least once a day to talk to Faye, sometimes I used to to speak with my parents too.

No, I rarely use it...

I've done a couple of video iChats, and played with it to take stupid photos of myself for avatars - like the one I use here. Otherwise, it's off and stays off.

I've used one a handful of times. We'd use iChat at work in the edit suite to meet with clients when presenting/working on projects.
I've chatted with friends using one, but take it from me, if they're lying on a sofa, laptop on stomach, it feels like you're lying on top of them.
Which might be terrific, if it's someone you'd like to be romantically involved with, but with your hairy best mate, not so much.
I've also had friends nurse along relationships using web cams, when one's been in another country.

Personally, I barely use a text based messenger, let alone a video one.
Not that I wouldn't, I just have no need to.

Sometimes, but it generally feels odd, as does talking over Skype rather than on a phone.
