I have a new computer on the network here which is printing slowly.

We have 2 Toshiba Tecras with Windows 7 Pro 32-bit, a Tecra with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, my FJS Scaleo P with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and a new Acer Veriton with Windows 7 Pro 32-bit.

The Toshes and the Scaleo all print normally. They all print to Kyocera FS1300D printers and all jobs print immediately. A 3 side Excel document goes out in under half a second.

On the Acer, the same file takes around 5 minutes, before the printing dialog disappears and another 2-3 minutes before the printer starts printing. When I tried to print something from it the other day, it seemed okay (under 2 seconds to print, 4 seconds for the job to start on the printer). But the users are having real problems with it.

I'll go over there again tomorrow and have another look, but I'm pretty stuck for answers.

My first thought is to delete the printer queues, download the latest drivers and recreate them - maybe they somehow got Windows XP or Vista drivers? :?

Sorry haven't come across any printing problems with W7. Delete printer reinstall would be my first thought and you have that covered already.

Is there another printer you can try?

There is a Canon Pixma connected via USB as well, same problem. I just hope deleting all printers and rebuilding will solve it... :?

Two printers connecting by different ports / methods and both with the same problem. Doesn't sound good to be honest :?

I wonder if it would be worth stopping and restarting the spooler service? :?

Taken from another forum:

Quote:
I have seen this problem, and it is a bug in the Kyocera driver. Don't use the standard driver or the one with the printer. Download & instal the new version 8 Feb 2010. In this client's case, printing took 1 minute 50 seconds to start, reduced to 5 seconds after driver upgrade.

That might help, and to save you the five seconds it would take to find the download page, here it is: CLICKY

Hope this helps,

Let us know how you get on.

:D

Yep, first thing I did was download the new driver and install it, worked a treat.

Interesting that none of the other Windows 7 machines are affected (yet)...
