Well I'm going to have to disagree. Windows 7 is what Vista should have been. Vista gives me that feeling of impending doom "oh god it's crashing " - "oh no, I'm just opening an app and it's locked down the whole screen for approval"

It's an embarrassment.

Windows 7 has exactly the same behaviour. :?

Well no, 7 doesn't give that feeling of impending doom as the screen flickers and then finally locks down. It does ask for authorisation, but it does it more nicely.

Like I said, better marketing - it's exactly the same bloated over-priced rubbish, but MS managed to dupe people into thinking it was something new. Benchmarks are all but identical and Vista hasn't crashed since I installed it on launch day.

What they have done in 7 is dumb down UAC for the benefit of XP tards who miss the insecurity.

Also, when Vista came out, everything needed admin privileges because it was written for XP, but now very few things do. So whilst UAC is barely noticed on a Vista system now, because it doesn't happen on Vista's stunt double people think it is automatically better.

+1 to everything Gav said. I will happily use either, but other than for jump lists, I generally prefer Vista to 7.

If you right click Computer on the desktop and go to Properties, you will see the Service Pack level under Windows Edition at the top.

If you read the OP, you'll see that was the first thing I did.
