hi all, I have a wireless network at home which works with all my current laptops.
today I purchased a netbook with windows 7 starter.
no matter what I do I cannot get this to connect to the network.
the wireless adapter is on and running.
my network is on channel 13, my wireless adapter is a belkin 802.11b. the netbook is 802.11n, is this an issue.
i have security configured and MAC address fitering enabled but I know I have the wep key and IP address configured correctly.
does anyone have any ideas as to the problem.
I understood windows 7 was more able to connect to networks?
I keep getting this error from ipconfig
No operation can be performed on Wireless Network Connection while it has its me dia disconnected.
more news the wireless adapter can see some BT openzone networks which I know are friends houses, it just cannot see my wireless network at home. Is there a limits on the number of wireless connections that windows 7 starter can see at anyone time?
regards
Alan

A couple of things:
MAC Address filtering - have you added the MAC address of the netbook to the list of allowed devices?
WEP - don't, just don't. Use WPA2 as a minimum, WEP can be cracked quicker than you can type a new key into the router!
Not had any problems with my "n" machines on "g" networks.

hi, the trouble is my wireless network is not picked up by the netbook. it can see my neighbours BT systems but not my own. Every other laptop I have connect fine it is just the netbook.

Have you got the router to "hide SSID" as that would explain why you can't see it on the netbook.

hi, yes, I have enabled SSID broadcast and checked this with other laptops.
the wireless is broadcom and there should be a utility with it. I think this is why the media says it is not connected as I cannot access the utility.
