We are looking at making a demo terminal, which our sales rep can take with him.
It uses a 19" touchpanel and usually we have a dual-core Atom processor on Intel motherboard. It uses either LTSP (Linux booted from the server) for our own software or Windows 7 for SAP customers.
For our demo device, we want to combine it with a 3G wireless router (Lancom), but in case that there is no 3G connection where they are doing the demonstration (using the client's network is usually out of the question, as we need to build a VPN tunnel to our server), we want to put a more powerful motherboard in the machines (mobile Core i3 / Core i5, integrated Intel graphics), with 8GB RAM, Windows Server 2008R2 and a SAP installation, as well as a virtual machine with our own software and our SAP peripheral connection software.
Due to the construction of the stainless steel housing, a full power mainboard and power supply is out of the question, as it will generate too much heat, there isn't enough room for the mainboard and the PSU would also not fit inside.

You couldn't go for a mini ITX Sandybridge solution? The heat is waaay down and the boards are tiny...

It could be a possible solution...

So, looking at a Core i5-2500 on an Intel DH67CF at the moment. We'll need a bigger power supply - the current one is a 80W one, which powers the mainboard and the monitor, with the i5-2500, it will just about power the mainboard and processor!

I wouldn't use an Intel board anyway, myself. As for a Core i5, do you really need that much juice?! I'd be looking for the i3 release (next month supposedly) or at least one of the lower power i5s. The 2400S has a 30w lower TDP at only 65w...

The device has to be finished by next week, so waiting a month for an i3 is out of the question, at the moment...

That is what our company founder suggested. But we can get the bits for a couple of hundred Euros, or 2 to 3 times that for a laptop, then the screen etc. are thrown away, it seems such a waste. Skipped the Sandy Bridge idea. We went for a Core i5 670 and a DH57JGG, 8GB DDR-3 1366 and a 1TB Samsung 3.5" drive...
