Sis has been trying to d/load a .doc from her Gmail account.
Every time we try and open it, Word 2007 goes into spasm and locks, giving up a spinning circle, which goes nowhere.
Tried d/ling the latest service pack for it, which is apparently already installed. All the other updates are what they should be.

Any pointers chaps?

All files. Excel/P.point don't seem to be affected.
Also, after trying to do the update, I tried to reopen Word.
The app went into a 'Configuring Office' dialogue, which was still there after some 40 minutes.
So I've killed it and I'm restarting the machine. Again.

Can you/have you tried forwarding the attachment to a non-Gmail address and trying it from there? Have you tried saving the file rather than opening it?

Yup, tried it from her hotmail account as well, and we're opening it from the saved copy on her laptop.
She's given in and is using my Dad's Mac now - it's downloaded from Gmail, opened and printed fine on that, which makes me think it's her Office install that's at fault.
