This is the third battery I have had for my MBP now.

Without fail they have all died after 1 year of use (I was even following the schedule for recharging with the last 2). This last one got to the point where it just refused to charge and if I pulled the plug the MBP just lost power completely.

I was using it the other day and it started rocking as I was typing. I thought there was something underneath it but when I looked there was nothing there and the battery looked like it wasn't plugged in properly.

When I removed the battery the outer casing has been pushed out by about 1 cm by the stuff inside it!

I've removed it completely now and only use it with the plug.

I don't know if I want to buy another battery now :(

Blimey, Oli!

You seem to be jinxed with your batteries, don't you. I wonder if it's the laptop charging circuit at fault.

The model of MBP I have has been dubbed "the bad apple".

It is just bad.

It's the late 2007 15" version.

I've been thinking of getting a new MBP and I'm holding off for now until the next overhaul. I don't want to get the last of the aluminium unibody MBPs, I'd rather get the first of the next version.

(I have heard they are investigating the use of carbon fibre for unibodies).

Mine's about that. It did have an issue with the original battery not holding a charge just after the 12 month warranty expired, but Apple swapped it out without question. The current battery is nearly three years old, spends 95% of its life on charge and still has around four hours of life when I need it.

As yours appears to have killed three batteries, I suspect a hardware fault somewhere. Being out of warranty now doesn't help, though. :(

This is what it looks like.

And it does not appear to be a problem specific to me...

Mine is actually worse than that.

I got mine replaced when it refused to hold any charge. It was replaced because it was a bad batch. Like Heather it remains on charge nearly all of the time.

I would say mine was a bad batch but I got one from Japan in 2007, one from Apple direct as a replacement in 2008 and one from Leeds in 2009.

I'm guessing they weren't part of the same batch.

No it looks like other issues. Though there was a big battery recall a few years ago.

Yeah, my second one was replaced under that scheme.

I've given up hope now though and I only really use it at home anyway so I can always be plugged in.

I'll wait for the next round of MBP and see about getting a new one :D
