Bought Pages '09 from the App Store for £11.99. I figured if getting a free or otherwise office suite I only ever use the WP anyway.

Was also surprised to see Aperture 3 for £44.99. Seems cheap no?

It is. Shop price used to be (and may indeed still be) something around £200 IIRC. Even with education discount I think it cost me about £90.

No shame in it, it's useful.
It's not enabled on the college iMacs, and I still spend a few seconds trying to right click and thinking the mouse if broken, even after 6 weeks.

If I have a user profile on the Mac and Nicola has her own is there a way she can see the pictures folder from mine?

Don't think so. There may be some command line jiggery-pokery that you can do but if so I don't know it. You'd need to have the images stored in a shared portion of the hard drive to have multiple accounts be able to see it. Or have them on an external drive.

Could you set up a folder in the Users>Shared directory? The do a Get Info and set it's permissions to be Read & Write for both your accounts?

Ultimatly it depends if they are just in your Pictures folder, or if they are there via in iPhoto or Aperture. If the latter you may be stuffed, otherwise you could:
Open up /Users/yourUserName/
Right click on Pictures and do "Get Info" (keyboard shortcut - Highlight the folder and do cmd+i)
Unlock the new window (padlock, bottom right)
Set the "staff" permissions to "read only" if it is there already, otherwise click on the "+" symbol and just add Nicola as a "read only" permission.

Note, this isn't "safe", you wouldn't do this out on a big UNIX computer on the Internet. But at home is another thing! I would still be reserved about setting "everyone" to anything other than "no access" though.

EDIT:

Code:
cd /Users/veato
chown -R veato:staff Pictures
chmod -R 750 Pictures

;)
