Unbelievable I know.
But here we are. I plug my phone in, and I've got to manually launch iTunes at the moment to get it synced.
Clearly, this situation can't go on. I mean manually clicking a launch icon?

Anyway, the appropriate check box in iTunes is checked ("Open iTunes when this phone is connected").
It's iTunes v.10.4 btw, and iOS 4.3.5.

Try a hard reset on your phone (hold the home and top button down unto the Apple logo appears).

Reinstall iTunes.

I could make a snarky comment about OS X and how "it just works". ;)

Have you actually checked it 'launch iTunes automatically' is ticked in your settings on the iPhone?

STBO I know but it may be unchecked.

Where do you find that option on the phone? I've got it checked in iTunes.

(IIRC)

Plug the phone in via USB. Open iTunes. Click the phone in the 'devices' section of iTunes. The option 'open iTunes when this phone is connected' is in the middle of the main info screen.

Solved it a couple of days ago.
Unchecked the box in iTunes.
Rechecked it.
Asked me if I knew that it'd have to run iTunes Helper.
Said yes, and it's still working having also just done the update to iTunes 10.4.1.
