I am having problems with a new iMac 27".

We have added it to the domain, but the option "allow network users to login" in the Users & Groups preferences dialog is not visible.

When we reboot the machine, the username field says "Network logins not available".

I have been through dozen different "workarounds" (according to the boards, it seems Apple broke something in OS X Lion and haven't fixed it yet).

I have tried:

adding "/Active Director/DOMAIN" to the search list in directory utility and placing it above "All Domains"

disabling IPv6

unbinding and rebinding

manually entering the search domain in network settings

telling it to use a preferred DC (both by name and IP address)

Nothing seems to work. The new user starts tomorrow, but unless we can get it added to the domain, so that she can access the central data shares, to allow her to do her job, she is going to be very unproductive! :?

Edit: I also tried repair permissions

Edit 2: We are using 2003 SB with a company.local domain name.

The 2003SB is telling me it on the Widnows Server 2003 Domain funktion level.

Complete Structure level is also WS 2003.

Yep, the iMac is in there. The iMac "Users and Groups" pane also shows the domain with a green light.

Just found a link about Bonjour and .local domains, could that be the problem?

http://blog.scottlowe.org/2006/01/04/ma ... l-domains/

it is old, from 2006, but it could still be relevant, I guess.

In my experience Mac's don't like .local addresses for domain.

Have you read this one? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/32 ... 0&tstart=0

Sorted!

Ended up using the Centrify solution

https://www.centrify.com/downloads/publ ... around.pdf

plus the Scott Lowe solution above.

I think the Centrify solution would work on its own, I was just impatient... After the last reboot, I was about to give up, then, in front of my eyes, the red light on the user field turned yellow, then it disappeared and I could log in.

At least I could put my vi skills to use, getting it working!

Which reminds me, there is now a version of the vi editor available for the iPhone, for all you die hard masochists out there!
