Cool - thanks, I will keep that in mind too. I found completely by accident that DiskDrill Media is only £6.99 on the App Store (down from about £40) so grabbed that - hopefully that will at least get the data back. I then just have to hope that when I re-import iTunes recognises the songs! Don't fancy renaming all those.... ;)

Just as an update, DiskDrill Media seems to have copied everything back ok - the file count in the info boxes would suggest that all the mp3s safely made the journey, but time will tell when I re-import. Just need to restore and see if the drive is okay now!

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions!

Ben

Oh, I didn't mean to say they don't last for ages. But like any mechanical device, the teensy hard drives will eventually croak.

My Classic 80GB is still chuntering on. I did a restore over Christmas, mainly because it had obviously become a bit fragmented and took ages to unmount or switch between stuff. I dropped it on a hard floor yesterday, while it was playing a podcast at me, and it didn't skip a beat.

:geek:
